GM confirms Camaro Z28, meanwhile the Camaro outsells Mustang in June

It was feared that the powerhouse Z28 would die a premature death thanks in large part to the ailing economy, GM's bankruptcy, and rising oil prices. But the well connected folks at Camaro5, the Z28 will appear after the Camaro convertible, which is expected in the spring of 2011.

The Z will reportedly offer more power (duh), a hood similar to the Bumblebee edition, a unique grill, and other assorted bits and pieces that make it unique.

In other news, the long drought of the Camaro has obviously gotten fans of the car excited as their beloved pony car has taken out the Mustang in sales for the month of June. GM says it sold a total of 9,320 Camaros, while Ford sold 7,632 Mustangs.

For those who are curious, Dodge sold a meager 1,369 Challengers.

LRS's 4.6L 3-Valve Fairmont

Late Model Restoration has been providing restoration and performance parts for various cars for ten years now, and the majority of their business more than likely comes from the Mustang side of things. The staff at LRS is obviously comprised of a bunch of car guys, guys like Scott.

Scott has had quite a few Mustangs in his day, and wanted to build something a little different. He scored this Fairmont on Craigslist for the paltry sum of $350, and proceeded to gut much of everything with a desire to strip weight. Instead of going with a 5.0, stroker, or 351, he then decided to go the modern route with a 4.6L 3-valve V8 and in the process made one unique Fairmont.

The car is clean and simple, devoid of any modern amenities like air conditioning and sound deadener, as well as a lack of a rear seat or even a passenger seat for that matter. About the only thing that Scott added was a rollcage and harness for safety, along with some decals that make this thing look a little bit like a Thunderbolt. Ford's EcoBoost shines at the dragstrip

Car and Driver, among others, recently got to try out the future of Ford's powertrains at the dragstrip. The Ford Flex EcoBoost and Lincoln MKS EcoBoost got out to make some passes at Milan Raceway in Milan, Michigan a few weeks back.

Both the MKS and the Flex sported a 3.5 liter powertrain rated at 355hp, thanks to some turbocharged power. It's so surprise then that neither proved to be a slouch, with the MKS running the quarter in 13.9 seconds at 104 mph and the Flex netting a time of 14.5 seconds at 98 mph.

Their performance is certainly a great indicator of future potential, as neither car is your typical drag racer. Just wait until these things get dropped in a Mustang, and the aftermarket gets ahold of them and starts cranking out aftermarket parts.
