AMC Gremlin and AMX, as imagined today

Jeff Teague is the son of former AMC design chief Dick Teague, one of the more influential designers for the independent auto producer. Jeff is a designer himself, and has been imagining some modern day designs for what could be modern interpretations of classic AMC cars.

Jeff's first renderings were are redo of the AMX, and now he has drawn up a modern day version of the Gremlin. The modern take on the Gremlin doesn't look too much like the original, but has a nicely non retro look to it. In fact, the only real connection to the original is the shape of the C pillar.

The original AMX was perhaps the nicest of the AMC creations, and it went head to head with big name pony cars in their heyday. Based on a shortened version of the Javelin's platform, the AMX had just two seats and was all about performance. The car turned into something of an icon for the automaker, and the name was subsequently used for a series of concepts throughout the '70s... right up until American Motors died.

AMC followers have speculated for some time about a rebirth of the company, though it unfortunately seems unlikely. The original cars never quite received the attention that they should have and it's pretty likely that the fledgling economy would scare off any potential investors.
