Iacocca Mustang to start at $89,950

The price of exclusivity, style, and power is pretty steep. But then again, if it wasn't everybody including your uncle Cletus would be driving Ferrari's.

Lee Iacocca's Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang is one of the hottest pony cars on the market, and now it's one of the most expensive as well. Pricing for each of the 45 cars will begin at $89,950.

You can add on options such as a supercharger, or bigger brakes. These additions will take the price over six figures, but if you can afford it then a ten or twenty thousand more won't matter.

In reality a rare, limited production car such as this selling for under six figures is a bargain. And the first one already sold at auction for $125,000, so act now if you want one!

PRESS RELEASE:

I Legacy, the team responsible for introducing the stunning Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang, in concert with Galpin Ford, announced today that pricing on the iconic, limited edition cars will start at $89,950.

Built by Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, a company known for building some of the most awe-inspiring concept cars for numerous auto manufacturers for more than 28 years, the Iacocca Mustang is a breathtaking vehicle that utilizes the latest in Ford performance technology with a style and panache that screams Mustang fastback.

The car is an exceptional piece of modern day coach building, an art dating back to the 1930s and 40s, reaching a zenith with European sports cars of the 50s and 60s. It is a hand-built example of an art form that is all but lost today.

By blending old world craftsmanship, new world technology and uncompromising integrity, Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters provides superb expertise with every car. Each of the 45 limited edition Mustangs are custom-built by a team of talented artists, using composite construction Laminates, a reinforced material that is primarily used in aerospace design.

"The Iacocca Mustang embodies all the elements of a car that will be a future collectible," said Keith Martin, publisher of Sports Car Market magazine. "It is stunning in appearance, will be built in limited numbers and has top-flight performance. Further, given its true custom-built nature, it is being offered at a very reasonable price."

The hand-crafted vehicles, all painted in a specially-created Iacocca silver hue, are fabricated using only the finest tooling, with each part separately cured in an autoclave. As a result, every part of the Iacocca Mustang is extremely light, but very strong.

The Iacocca-designed hood crest is custom built by a distinguished jeweler and every emblem is hand-finished and polished. Front and rear wheels are cast aluminum and chrome plated for a sheen-like finish and the center caps are machined and also chrome plated.

While the exterior fastback design of the Iacocca Silver Mustang is compelling, the mechanical underpinnings are true American muscle. Two Ford Racing power options are offered for the normally-aspirated 4.6-liter Ford V8 300hp – *a Ford Racing 85 mm cold air kit with 320 horsepower or *an optional Ford Racing supercharger that delivers a head-snapping 400 horsepower. Both come with a factory Ford warranty. Drivers will harness the power through a quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission.

Inside the Iacocca Silver Mustang, the interior is resplendent with luxurious touches that highlight the car's special heritage, including Iacocca Diamond Design leather seats with embroidery stitching, an Iacocca signature dash plaque with serial number, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with "I" badge and Iacocca-badged aluminum door sill plates.

The Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is a collaborative effort by Lee Iacocca, designer Michael Leone, and Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, the world-class coachbuilding and Design Company in Fountain Valley, Calif. Galpin Ford, the largest volume Ford dealer in the world, is the exclusive dealership to offer these Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustangs to the public.

Lee Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang

Lee Iacocca, former president of Ford, is known as the father of the Ford Mustang. Not to mention he recruited Carroll Shelby to create some pretty famous versions of the Mustang himself. So it's no surprise that Lee would one day get his own special edition Mustang.

The car you see here is known as the 2009 1/2 Lee Iacocca 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang, and it features a coach built body designed by Michael Leone and built by the Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters.

The Mustang features a redesigned front end with sunken headlights and a sleek fastback body line. Inside it features Diamond Design leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with "I" logos, and Iacocca-badged aluminum door sill plates.

Ford Performance is to thank for some performance mods, which include a cold-air intake system and the Ford Racing Handling Pack with new shocks and springs. Customers can also opt for a supercharger system that boosts the 4.6-liter V8 to 400 horsepower as well as a 14-inch front brakes.

Only 45 copies of the 45th Anniversary Edition Mustang will be produced, all sold exclusively through Galpin Ford in Southern California.

PRESS RELEASE:

Forty-five years after he introduced the original Ford Mustang, launched at a dramatic press conference at the 1964 New York World's Fair, auto industry visionary Lee Iacocca today announced a new version of the famous muscle car – the Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang – a breathtaking vehicle that utilizes the latest in Ford performance technology with a style and panache that screams, Mustang fastback. Only 45 "2009½" Iacocca Silver Edition Mustangs – all painted a special "Iacocca" chosen silver hue – will be built.

Nearly two years in the making, the Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is a collaborative effort by Iacocca, designer Michael Leone, and Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, the world-class coachbuilding and Design Company in Fountain Valley, Calif. The new business venture is called I Legacy, and it will be in concert with Galpin Ford, the exclusive Ford dealership to offer these Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustangs to the public.

In a word, the new Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is stunning. The lines flow organically from front to rear. The hand-crafted piece of rolling art, with its innovations and impact of the fastback design is truly exceptional in every way. With its sunken headlights, slanted grill and low stance, the car gives you "street attitude."

"Once in a while a car comes along that changes everything, and that was the original Mustang," said Iacocca.

The Silver Edition Mustang perpetuates the Iacocca mystique.

The car begins life on a 2009 Mustang platform, which is then uniquely modified and coachbuilt. While the exterior fastback design of the Iacocca Silver Mustang is compelling, the mechanical underpinnings are true American muscle. Two power plant options will be offered, a normally-aspirated 4.6-liter Ford V8 rated at 320 horsepower and an optional supercharged version that delivers a head-snapping 400 horsepower. Both engines are covered by a factory Ford warranty. Drivers will harness the power through a quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission.

The car's suspension has been upgraded to keep pace with the power delivery. A Ford Racing Handling Package adds firmer springs and re-valved shock absorbers. A 14-inch Ford Racing Braking Package is optional. All suspension components will be covered under a factory Ford warranty, as well.

Inside the Iacocca Silver Mustang, the interior is resplendent with luxurious touches that highlight the car's special heritage, including Iacocca Diamond Design leather seats with embroidery stitching, an Iacocca signature dash plaque with serial number, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with "I" badge, and Iacocca-badged aluminum door sill plates.

The cars will initially be revealed and then available at a reception in late July, at Southern California's Galpin Ford dealership, the world's largest volume Ford dealer for 19 years, as well as an innovator in the promotion and retail of specialty automobiles. The price is yet to be announced.

The "Father of the Mustang" returns to the legend that started it all.
