Consumer Reports pits modern muscle cars against each other in battle of supremacy

Consumer Reports is famous not for comparing high performance vehicles, but the reliability of say, econo boxes and mid size sedans. But the guys and gals that work at CR are true car fans, and that fact is quite evident in this video which pits the three modern muscle cars against each other.

The video previews an upcoming comparison test between the Ford Mustang GT, Chevy Camaro SS, and Dodge Challenger R/T. Watch the rubber burn.

A gathering of 2010 Ford Mustang wheels

One of the features Ford had out on display in Detroit was Mustang Alley, featuring a display of hoods used over the years as well as a full lineup of wheels available for it's new pony.

Ford Racing has offered a variety of wheels before, but this appears to be a concerted effort to filter some more aftermarket bucks back to the manufacturer. From the looks of the pictures they appear to be on the right track.

Video: More 2010 Ford Mustang burnout goodness, MT test numbers

We can never get enough tire smoke, and thankfully neither can the guys at Motor Trend.

That fact is very apparent in their latest video, which features a GT being put through it's paces.

MT garnered some pretty respectable numbers from the new GT, running a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.9 at 101.7 mph. For the record, that's two tenths quicker and 2 mph faster than the 2008 GT.

The only problem is that the 2008 Bullitt ran a 5.0 0-60 and a 13.7 quarter, but that was with a 3.73 gear. The 2010 GT that MT tested had a 3.31 gear (3.73's are optional).

Overall the folks at MT were quite impressed with the new pony car. You can read the whole first test impression here.

2010 Ford Mustang GT pricing and options leak out

2010 Ford MustangImage by Ford Motor Company via FlickrWe're less than a day away from the official unveiling of the 2010 Ford Mustang at the L.A. Auto Show, and little bits of information are trickling out as we speak. The latest is that we now have some purported pricing and option information on at least the Mustang GT Premium package. If accurate, the price of the GT Premium will climb by about $935 to $30,095, a jump of 3.2%. Looking at the equipment list though, it appears some new features are included in that price like 18-inch wheels that were previously optional and SYNC. Other standard equipment includes automatic headlamps, LED tail-lights and body-colored mirrors. If this information is accurate, one other annoyance of the 2005-2009 Mustangs has been addressed with an interior trunk release, something that was previously missing. Ford will be revealing everything very soon, so stay tuned.

Teaser pics of the 2010 Mustang's front fender and mirror

The painfully slow reveal of the 2010 Mustang continues this week with the unveiling of the front fender and mirror. The photo reveals a more curvaceous hood line that dips down to the headlight more so than the current design.

Another difference is the fender, which flows from the hood to the wheel well in one smooth line rather than the current one that has a more pronounced and angular flare.

We also get a look at the rear view mirror, the top half being painted instead of the previous textured black look.

While Ford continues to play with our emotions, we still have seven more weeks of teaser pictures before the official unveil of the car.
