Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and Cuda Convertible, now with pictures!

We've previously brought you the goods on Mr. Norm's Garage and his version of the Challenger as well as the car that Chrysler won't build, the Cuda Convertible. And now the legendary Mopar performance shop has officially unveiled the cars at the Chryslers in Carlise event in Carlise, PA.

Each of these special builds is a throwback to the past, featuring shaker hoods the same dimensions as the originals, rear fenders reshaped to resemble the original lines, and even genuine '71 tailight assemblies and 'Cuda badges. The retro theme continues to the 426 Hemi, which screams with 725 horsepower and a good old Dana 44 rear.

PRESS RELEASE:

Introducing the new 2009 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles from Mr. Norm, the name that's synonymous with the most incredible high performance Mopars ever built and offered to enthusiasts. Based on the Challenger SRT-8, the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles echo the styling and performance of the original, iconic, E-Body muscle cars that inspired the creation of these vehicles. These drop tops mark the beginning of a new chapter in the history of two legendary muscle cars that spans nearly 40 years.

The compelling presence of the original 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda can be seen in the appearance of these vehicles. Both are the result of impeccable breeding, a pedigree with genes handed down from their celebrated ancestors that can be appreciated by enthusiasts of all ages. Design cues recall themes and details readily recognizable by aficionados, and have been carefully selected and refined to imbue these mighty Mopars with the same sensation of raw excitement that set the original 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda apart from their contemporaries when they were new, and still continue to dazzle enthusiasts today. They're bold, brash, in your face and exactly what you would expect from Mr. Norm.

Supercharged 426 Hemi Power...and More

Complementing their unforgettable appearance, the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles deliver overwhelming performance matched with superlative handling and braking in equal proportions. In doing so, they set a new benchmark for all muscle and performance cars in their category and beyond.

The Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles are a showcase for the latest in Gen III Hemi performance. Each of the engines is equipped with a new reciprocating assembly that includes a forged crank, rods and pistons that increase engine displacement to 7 liters, or the magic Mopar number; 426 cubic inches. Far stronger than the factory cast rods and pistons, these components provide the ultimate complement to the Mr. Norm's Signature Kenne Bell 2.8 liter twin screw supercharger that pumps up the volume of the Hemi engines to a whopping 725 pavement melting horsepower.

Backing up the performance of the thundering supercharged Hemi engines on both convertibles is the Mr. Norm's Hi Performance Rear Suspension System that replaces the stock components. The Mr. Norm's Rear Suspension System utilizes the beefy Viper SRT-10 spec Dana 44 differential that's mated to a significantly more robust driveshaft and half shafts. In addition, the 426 Hemi Convertibles also feature the Mr. Norm's Chassis Bracing Upgrade that includes frame connectors and additional bracing for a stiff unibody structure. TTI manufactured the low restriction cat back dual exhaust system that produces an aggressive exhaust note that befits a blown Hemi. Balancing out the awesome power is an AFCO fully adjustable coil over suspension system that provides great stance and handling without compromising ride quality.

Accentuating the bold stance of the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles is a set of classically inspired Mr. Norm's "Thrust" custom wheels that are sure to turn even the most jaded enthusiast green with envy. Inspired by the mag wheels that were popular when the first Hemi Challengers and Hemi Cuda's ruled the streets, these new forged, multi piece, 20 inch wheels evoke all of the nostalgia of the originals, with the added benefit of 21st century design and engineering. Complementing the wheels is a set of ultra high performance Pirelli tires that provide the new Mr. Norm's Hemi cars with the kind of grip that puts the bias ply wide boots of yesterday to shame.

Authentic Design

The appearance of the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles doesn't merely hint at the rippling Hemi power beneath their sensuous skins, it conveys it loud and clear. Authentic E-Body influenced themes resonate through every inch of the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles.

The front of the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Cuda sets the tone for the entire vehicle with its bold '71 Hemi Cuda inspired grille and dedicated 'Cuda Shaker hood that features a recreation of the exquisitely proportioned original Hemi Cuda Shaker by Mr. Norm's Garage. Remaining faithful to its 'Cuda heritage are new 2009 Cuda quarter panels, also by Mr. Norm's Garage, that feature the correct horizontal character line that completely differentiates it from its Challenger stable mate, matched with bold Hemi billboard graphics and bright trimmed 'Cuda Fender Gills. The attention to detail continues in the rear, where Mr. Norm's Garage incorporates actual 1971 Hemi Cuda tail light assemblies that flank a custom tail panel with genuine '71 'Cuda script. Hemi Cuda exhaust tips exit conspicuously from the rear fascia, calling attention to the consistent detail and design continuity that this vehicle conveys. The Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger showcases the same attention to detail with its dedicated Challenger Shaker Hood, body side graphics and Hemi Challenger exhaust tips.

The interiors of the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles feature glove soft Katzkin black custom leather and suede covered seats that are accented with yellow top stitching that complements exterior colors and graphics. Mr. Norm's embroidered logos grace the seatbacks and the custom carpet mats, a subtle reminder that these are very special vehicles. And in keeping with their ultra high performance theme, each of these 426 Hemi cars is equipped with a real pistol grip shifter for the six speed manual transmission, the essential component for those who revel in the thrill of shifting for themselves, and demand authenticity in their Mopars. Designed to appear like the original trendsetting Pistol Grip Shifter, these new shifters by Mr. Norm's Garage feature a carbon fiber or wood grain handle that's a mirror image of the original, mounted on a chrome plated arm.

Names that Honor a Great Legacy

Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda. No-nonsense names for no-nonsense ultra high performance vehicles. One look at them, and you know that these are two muscle cars that are not to be trifled with. The Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda pay homage to the heritage of the original Hemi Challenger and Hemi Cuda. In an era of generic look-a-like cars that have as much personality as an angry kitchen appliance, the Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles radiate the kind of charisma that cause young and old alike to stop and stare, while creating a burning desire to own one.

The Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda represent the renaissance of the breed of automobile that is uniquely American. Without question, the beauty, strength and power of these vehicles can be seen in even their most subtle nuances. The Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles are much more than ordinary high performance cars. By sheer virtue of their genetics, these are vehicles that link the past to the present while signaling the direction of the future.

Writing the Next Chapter in History

Pose the 2009 Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda side by side with the originals. You can easily see the resemblance between them. The bold body of the latest generation and its aggressive stance, coupled with the supercharged Hemi power that rumbles beneath the shaker hoods truly mark the next step in the advance of the classic American, big bore V8, high performance rear wheel drive muscle car. While they pay homage to the original Hemi Challenger and Hemi Cuda, these vehicles are totally modern. The new Mr. Norm's 426 Hemi Challenger and 426 Hemi Cuda Convertibles were created to ignite the passion of hard core performance enthusiasts who grew up with their legendary ancestors, while singing their siren song to a new generation who have yet to experience the excitement these vehicles offer.

Video: Rhys Millen's Hyuandai Genesis Couple at Pikes Peak, in car

I have to admit, I'm not much of a rally fan. I prefer my speed to be on pavement, usually in a straight line and occasionally going around some corners. But there's something utterly insane about rally, especially Pikes Peak.

You see, I've been up the giant mountain with it's curvy dirt roads and sometimes lack-of-a-guardrail curves. At a very slow speed. It blows my mind to think that people actually race up the mountain, vying all the while to break time records.

Rhys Millen took on the 14,110 foot summit this year in a Hyuandai Genesis Coupe, setting a course record along the way by covering 12.4 miles in 12 minutes, 9.397 seconds. Enjoy the video of his feat, which is about as close as this author will ever get to doing such a thing.

It's Official - Ford Mustang to enter NASCAR in Nationwide Series

Long have folks wondered just why we have to watch family sedan stock cars race around a track in NASCAR, when we could just as easily see some real muscle. And now it seems that we will, as Ford has just announced that the Mustang will make it's debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series during the 2010 season.

The roll out in 2010 will be limited, however. It looks like it will be 2011 before a full introduction of the iconic pony car will be made. While this news will undoubtedly stir up some much needed interest in NASCAR, and is overdue, we did wince a little when looking at the images of the car. Hopefully the styling will be a little more, um, like a real Mustang by the time the car rolls out on the track.

PRESS RELEASE:

MUSTANG extends racing presence - enters NASCAR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2010 NATIONWIDE SERIES

· Mustang will be Ford's new race vehicle in the NASCAR Nationwide Series when it begins a limited rollout of its new car in 2010.
· Mustang's motorsports history includes many types of racing – drag, road, drifting – but this will be Mustang's first appearance in any NASCAR-sanctioned series.
· Mustang is Ford's most successful race car in its long history

DEARBORN, Mich., July 28, 2009 – Mustang is already the most successful single nameplate brand in professional racing history, but it hasn't competed in NASCAR – until now.

Brian Wolfe, director of Ford North America Motorsports, made the announcement today that Mustang will debut as part of NASCAR's "new car" limited rollout in the 2010 Nationwide Series.

"We're excited about Mustang coming to NASCAR," said Wolfe. "It's the most successful product nameplate in racing history, and it seems only right that it should be coming to the most popular form of racing in North America.

"We had been talking with NASCAR for some time about Mustang as part of its vision for a 'muscle car' rollout for the Nationwide Series. We both saw it as a way of differentiating the series from Sprint Cup," said Wolfe. "We loved the idea, so we jumped on the chance to extend Mustang's racing legacy to a new series reaching a huge and loyal audience. Mustang has dominated other forms of racing, including NHRA drag racing, Grand-Am Cup road racing, and Formula D drifting, and now it's coming to NASCAR Nationwide.

"I think race fans – and Mustang loyalists - will be very pleased when we publicly roll out the first car later this fall."

Ford Racing has gone through the official NASCAR submission and approval process for the new car, and, once templates are finalized, production of Mustang parts will start so teams can build the first cars for testing later this fall.

"We're excited about the new car in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and particularly the new body styles such as the Ford Mustang," said NASCAR President Mike Helton. "It's going to be one good-looking race car."

The 2010 Ford Mustang will join the 2010 Fusion (Sprint Cup) and the 2009 Ford F-Series (Camping World Truck Series) as Ford's competitive entries in NASCAR's three major professional series.

"We're excited about being able to race Mustang in front of our loyal NASCAR fan base and know it's going to win races and championships just like it has in every other series it has competed," said Wolfe. "The Mustang created the pony car movement when it debuted in 1964. Now, the NASCAR Mustang has the opportunity to create a whole new look to stock car racing at its highest levels."

Mustang in Racing

From the time the very first Mustang rolled off the assembly line in 1964, it was destined to race. Whether it be from the 1960s drag racing cars and the Shelby GT350-R SCCA racers, to the Trans-Am Boss 302 Mustangs of the seventies, to the IMSA and Trans-Am cars of the eighties and nineties, to the drag race and sports car racing Mustangs of today, Mustang has been a winner.

Mustang currently competes professionally in the NHRA Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions and places like the Grand-Am KONI Challenge, SCCA World Challenge, and the Mustang Challenge Series. In addition, thousands of Mustangs see action by grassroots racers at road courses and drag strips all across America.

Since its debut in 1964, Mustang has compiled more than 2,000 professional racing victories in NHRA, Grand-Am, IMSA, SCCA, NMRA and NMCA, as well as other racing series.

The 2010 Mustang

Muscle goes modern for 2010 as the Ford Mustang – America's favorite muscle car for 45 years straight – hits the streets with a new exterior design; new world-class interior featuring well-crafted materials and updated technology; and a V-8 with 315-horsepower and an even throatier signature Mustang exhaust sound.

In true Mustang tradition, there is a "steed for every need." Customers can choose from a V-6 or V-8 with their choice of coupe, convertible or innovative glass roof, plus several new options and features delivering the opportunity for customers to personalize their cleaner, meaner-looking Mustangs.

The new Mustang was recently launched through the "The '10 Unleashed" campaign, which gives enthusiasts the chance to unleash their Mustang side behind the wheel of the new 2010 Mustang – whether it be drifting in Japan like world champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr. or customizing a new Mustang using Ford Racing Performance Parts.

Through Aug. 15, consumers can submit their own Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less via Ford's "The '10 Unleashed" site at www.the2010Mustang.com. Written submissions will be judged based on creativity, uniqueness and execution of idea. Winning submissions will be selected every few weeks, and winners will be able to turn their Mustang experience into reality.

Video: Bugatti Veyron takes on Nissan GT-R

Fresh off it's victory on Top Gear vs. a McLaren F1, the Bugatti Veyron is apparently setting it's sights on taking out other supercars. Namely, the Nissan GT-R. If you think that this may be a mismatch of sorts for Godzilla, you may be right.

While the GT-R is a darn fast car in it's own right, when you double the horsepower and stuff it in a car that costs roughly ten times as much, it just isn't that fair. The Nissan is fast, the Bugatti is ridiculously fast. Watch the video to see just how much faster the Bugatti is.

Corvette based SV 9 Competizione is not your neighbor's Corvette

Rebodied Corvettes with Italian flair is a time honored tradition, one that was lost for many years but has recently gained steam again. Recent examples include the Castagna Aznom and Bertone Mantide, and now we have the SV 9 Competizione to add to the list.

The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was clearly the inspiration for this Italian Corvette. Whether you love or hate the interesting front end styling, there's no doubt that this is a unique ride that will turn some heads. And all for a reasonable price of $99,995.

Once you get beyond the unique body work, there is more to see in the Competizione that differentiates it from a common Corvette. The interior is stitched up in a nice supple leather, and a new intake and exhaust result in a 14 horsepower boost that take the total horses up to 450 and take the car to 60 in a claimed four seconds flat and a 12 second quarter mile. A new set of wheels fitted with Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires help the car brake from 60 to 0 in 107 feet and 1.03g on the skidpad.

SV will allow you to choose from 25 exterior colors, 5 interior trims, and four wheel choices to further differentiate yourself from the other 1,000 owners, which is all they plan to produce.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Edition revealed

Honestly, we didn't think Chevy was serious when they talked about developing a "Bumblebee" edition Camaro based on the lovable, bumbling character from the Transformers movies. But one cannot deny the popularity of said movies, and it seems like a potentially good financial move for GM, which is on the rebound from financial difficulties.

So at Comic-Con, the big comic convention (get it?), GM made it offcial by rolling out the yellow Camaro to the public for visual consumption. The apprearance package costs a mere $995 and can be applied to LT (V6) and SS-trim Camaros in Rally Yellow with or without the optional RS package.

The package includes Autobot insignia fender badges and wheel caps, an embroidered Autobot insignia on the center console, gloss-black rally stripes with Transformers logos, and Transformers-logo doorsill plates.

PRESS RELEASE:

Chevrolet announces the 2010 Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition

DETROIT - Fans of the new Camaro and the blockbuster TRANSFORMERS movies can now combine their love of the car and the films with the Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition announced today at Comic-Con in San Diego.

"Now, they can buy one with the new Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition. Streets all over North America will be buzzing in no time."

Features such as an EPA-rated 29 highway mpg on the V6-powered Camaro, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and OnStar combined with TRANSFORMERS design cues add to the car's status as a 21st century sports car.

"Hasbro is thrilled to team up with Chevrolet and excited to see the Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition come to market for our fans to enjoy," said Samantha Lomow, Global Brand Leader for TRANSFORMERS at Hasbro. "The yellow Camaro with the black stripes has become so iconic and closely associated with the BUMBLEBEE character that this edition was a natural fit for both companies."

While the aggressive styling of the Camaro is unmistakable, true TRANSFORMERS fans will notice some of the unique, but subtle features of the Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition includes the following:

* AUTOBOT® shield on the driver and passenger side panels
* AUTOBOT® shield on each of the four wheel's center cap

* "TRANSFORMERS" logo embedded into the hood rally stripes

The V6-powered Camaro uses a 3.6L engine with variable valve timing to optimize performance and fuel economy. It is SAE-certified at 304 horsepower (227 kW) and 273 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine; a Hydra-Matic 6L50 electronically controlled six-speed automatic, with TAPshift control, is available.

The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission-equipped models receive the LS3 engine, SAE-certified at 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 Nm). It is paired with a TR6060 six-speed transmission.

A new, L99 V-8 engine is used on automatic transmission-equipped SS models. It is based on the LS3, but also includes GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management feature. It is SAE-certified at 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 410 lb.-ft. of torque (556 Nm). It is matched with a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission that helps delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg on the highway.

Saleen reveals 2010 435S Mustang

MJ Acquisitions has launched it's first car under the Saleen moniker that it purchased a while back from Steve Saleen, and it is dubbed the 435S. If the car seems to be a little understated compared to the various wild and wacky aftermarket tuned Mustangs on the market, it's because MJ intends for the car to offer more substance for less money.

The 435S comes equipped with a Saleen Series VI twin-screw supercharger that helps pump the ponies up to 435, with 425 lb-ft of torque. A five speed manual rows the gears and is backed up by a 3.73:1 geared rear end. A sport tuned suspension package improves stock handling, and upgraded brakes increase the whoa with 14 inchers up front.

Customers can also opt for the Aero package, which adds a chin spoiler and rear wing to pair up with the Saleen graphics and 18 inch wheels. Pricing has not yet been announced, but expect it to be in the $40,000 range.

PRESS RELEASE:

Saleen Performance Vehicles today unveiled its first 2010 product, the Saleen 435S, based on the new 2010 Ford Mustang. The introduction took place as part of the Special Vehicle Team Owners Association's annual "Mustang Week" event. The 435S is the first vehicle launched under Saleen's new ownership, following the purchase of Saleen Inc. earlier this year.

This car continues the Saleen tradition of offering limited-edition, high-performance vehicles for enthusiasts who are looking for an exhilarating driving experience, with refined drivability for real-world road conditions.

The 435S is designed to provide affordable, high-value performance.

"In these difficult economic times we wanted our first vehicle to deliver a lot for an affordable price," said Mike Shields, CEO of Saleen Performance Vehicles. "It was created much more for 'go' than for show. We focused on power and handling, and it's a great platform to build on if a customer wants to take it farther later on."

Heart of the car's performance is its 4.6-liter, 3-valve SOHC V8 engine, complete with a Saleen Series VI twin-screw supercharger and two-stage intercooler. This engine produces a vigorous 435 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft. of torque. It's mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, and has a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio with limited-slip differential.

The car rides 1.5 inches lower than a Mustang GT, thanks to its Saleen Racecraft performance suspension. The system is designed to reduce body roll, provide nimble, precise handling and improve traction, while retaining the compliant ride of a good daily driver. The suspension package includes springs, a stiffer front stabilizer bar, and nitrogen-pressurized shock absorbers tuned exclusively for the 435S.

The vented brake rotors, front and rear, are slotted and cross-drilled for improved feel and stopping performance. Larger, 14-inch slotted front rotors with 4-piston calipers are available as an option.

The 435S has the Saleen-signature long, low, sleek looks and aggressive stance that have distinguished the company's previous cars. Traditional Saleen styling cues include an understated trim panel between the taillights with "Saleen" in raised lettering, mesh covers over the fog lights in the grille, and the Saleen name and chevrons as graphic elements placed low on each side. An optional Aero Package includes a lightweight chin splitter and rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics.

Other exterior highlights include unique, 18-inch, 5-spoke alloy wheels (19- and 20-inch wheels are available), and "435S" lettered on each side of the hood's power dome.

Inside, the modifications are designed to enhance the driving experience and to express the car's character. These include a new, short-throw shifter for quick, precise gear-changing performance, and new, driver-oriented gauges. These uniquely styled gauges retain Mustang's MyColor™ capabilities that allow the owner to select from more than 125 custom colors for the instrument cluster. The car's identity is highlighted by a Saleen logo embroidered on the headrests.

"All in all, we believe the 435S is the right car at the right time," said Shields. "It's a terrific performance value that we're proud to offer. And this is just the first of many great Saleen vehicles we'll be launching in the future."

New renderings, details on SMS Supercars 460 Mustang

Steve Saleen has brought forth some nice pictures and details regarding it's latest super ride, the 460 Mustang. According to SMS, the car is in its final prototype testing changes and will hit the market some time later this year.

Much of the styling cues that made the S197 Mustangs so popular are still present on the new version. The front end sports a blacked out grille, an agressive front fascia, and vented hood. Side skirts are present, as are the familiar sunken in tailights.

Performance upgrades are also similar to the previous generation's. You get a supercharged 4.6L V8, with either 470 or 655 horsepower, and the usual suspension and brake upgrades. SMS claims that the 460 will hit 60mph in 4.5 seconds, with the 460X doing the same in 4 seconds flat.

PRESS RELEASE:

Orange County, California. (July 20, 2009) Yesterday, Steve Saleen and his company SMS Supercars unveiled the first CAD illustrations of the 2010 SMS 460 Mustang at the "Mustangs Northwest Roundup" event in Seattle. The SMS 460 Mustang will be the only Mustang authorized to bear Steve Saleen's name, to use the benefit of his heritage and to incorporate his performance innovations derived from over thirty years of racing and manufacturing experience. Steve Saleen, President and CEO of SMS Supercars: "The SMS 460 Mustang embodies everything I stand for. The SMS 460 Mustang is in final tooling and prototype testing stages and the market launch is planned for later this year.

The SMS 460 Mustang will offer a 4.6 liter V8 engine featuring 470 hp and 427 ft-lb of torque, while the even more powerful SMS 460X Mustang engine with all new internals and extensive headwork pumps out 655 hp and 600 ft-lb from the enlarged 5.0 liter V8. Both use the new (patent pending) SMS 296 Supercharger for their incredible horsepower and torque gains. Transmission options are a 5-speed automatic or 5-speed manual on the 460 or a 6-speed SMST manual on the top of the line 460X. Performance for both cars is striking.

The SMS 460 Mustang accelerates from 0 to 60 in under 4.5 seconds, while the 460X manages the same in closer to 4. In addition to engine output, handling, road holding and braking improvements, the 2010 SMS 460 Mustangs will feature Steve's signature Watt's linkage suspension with all-new geometry. New SMS 15" six piston front and 13" four piston rear brakes deliver impressive stopping power to match the jaw-dropping acceleration. The SMS 460X Mustang will also feature the unique (patent-pending) Steve Saleen Red Butterfly Induction System. The interior with all-new Alcantara and leather SMS performance seats features the patented Signature Series chevron stripes. Multiple seat chevron and SMS unique exterior colors are available through the SMS Tailor Made options.

GM says that the Camaro's transmission woes are fixed

The New York Times is reporting that General Motors has fixed it's transmission issues that stopped production of the new pony car. A number of Camaro SS owners who opted for the Tremec 6 speed transmission were experiencing failures.

Company officials are declining to reveal the source of the problem, but it is known that the problem had something to do with the output shaft. The defect occurred when aggressive driving was performed, reportedly with rpms over 5,000.

GM decided that the problem was fixed and that no recall was necessary. The Tremec is the same transmission used in a variety of performance cars. Now that the problem has been corrected, GM can get back to trying to keep up with customer demand, which has far exceeded supply.

Ford debuts AV-X10 "Dearborn Doll" Mustang

Last year at the Experimental Aircraft Association's Gathering of Eagles charity auction, a one off Mustang dubbed the AV8R brought in good money and lots of attention. So this year, we have yet another special version set to cross the block.

The 2010 AV-X10 Mustang features a star-and-bar glass roof, GT500 19" wheels, a GT500 rear spoiler, and GT500 lower rear fascia. it's trimmed out in a World War II fighter-inspired paint scheme. Orange trim fore and aft, a white "AV-X10" tail stripe, and "Dearborn Doll" fuselage pinup art set this auction pony apart visually. (There's even orange "propeller tip" trim on the wheel rims between their split-spoke pattern, too.)

Under the hood, the 4.6L has been modified with the Ford Racing Performance Parts 550-horsepower supercharger kit. Other go fast mods include an FR500S exhaust, and FRPP's Handling Pack. Inside it features a short-throw shifter, unique aircraft-themed instrumentation, custom bomber-jacket leather, and a special aluminum dash pattern.

G8 based Chevrolet Caprice for the U.S. is dead again

Perhaps Bob Lutz got a little caught up in the moment after his short lived retirement. After stating a few days ago that it would be a waste to see a car as good as the Pontiac G8 die, and mentioning that it might be a possibility that the car would come stateside badged as a Chevrolet Caprice, ol' Bob has changed course.

"The G8 will not be a Caprice after all. I'd mentioned it, and said we were studying it, giving it a serious look, because a car like the G8 was just too good to waste.

"That's all still true. But I have to say that, with my new "marketing" hat on, upon further review and careful study, we simply cannot make a business case for such a program. Not in today's market, in this economy, and with fuel regulations what they are and will be."

Lutz is quick to point out that the decision to kill the G8 will have no effect on GM's future rear-drive vehicles, and he went on to say, "... we have a tremendous RWD team in Australia that gave us the beloved G8, a team that we will tap into at some point again in the future for its expertise and sheet metal. Just not right now."

Such a shame.

Mr. Norm 426 Hemi Challenger and Cuda Convertible revealed

The Dodge Challenger may not be selling like the Mustang and Camaro, but it is receiving just as much attention from the aftermarket. It's really a shame that Chrysler's financial troubles may have stopped any ideas of creating more variants of the car, but leave it to Mr. Norm to step in and fill the void.

Norm Kraus is the owner of Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago, and has been creating hopped up and modified versions of legendary Chrysler cars for a long time. And now he has created two void filling cars for Chrysler's muscle car lineup, a 426 Hemi Challenger and a Cuda convertible.

Much like Mr. Norm's previous iteration of the Challenger, both the Hemi and the Cuda take much of their styling cues straight from the 70's. The Cuda sports a new grill inspired by the 1971 model, along with a shaker hood, billboard Hemi graphics, a little modified body work, and tailights from a '71 Hemi Cuda.

Backing up the looks is a 426ci Hemi that puts out 725hp thanks in large part to a Kenne Bell supercharger. The engine features all forged internals and is backed up with a Dana 44 differential to handle the power. Check out the press release below for full details.

Techco reveals 600 horsepower supercharger for Corvette

Techco International is a company on the rise, based out of Anaheim, that earlier this year introduced performance parts for the Chrysler LX platform as well as the Ford Mustang. The latest car in their vision for improved performance is the Chevrolet Corvette.

Thanks in large part to a reverse-revolution twin-screw supercharger system, Techco was able to squeeze 600 horsepower and 535 lb-ft of torque out of a C6. Designed and engineered by the same team that created the Series VI supercharger for the Saleen Mustangs, the Techco Corvette supercharger displaces 3.0 liters and features a standalone 8-rib drive system, patented dual A-Frame Intercooler system, high-volume fuel rails with 54 lb/hr injectors, and more.

The supercharger fits under a stock hood for extra sleeper potential, and the package costs $8500. Check out the full details in the press release below.

PRESS RELEASE:

Anaheim, CA, June 15, 2009 – Techco, "The Technology Company," has released a new Reverse-Revolution Twin-Screw Supercharger kit for all 2005-Current (C6) Corvettes equipped with the LS2, LS3 or LS7 V8s.

The unique Techco supercharger features reverse rotor lobes to allow front inlet induction for a shorter, more direct passage of air into the supercharger, resulting in cooler air and higher volumetric efficiency. This revolutionary supercharger, designed, engineered and manufactured in-house by Techco's talented team, made its debut in a supercharger kit for Dodge/Chrysler 5.7-liter and 6.1-liter V8s last year, followed by an application for Ford Mustang 4.6-liter 3-valve V8s in February 2009.

Like the Ford and Dodge/Chrysler designs, the Techco supercharger kit for the Corvette combines a large displacement blower with an ingenious dual-stage intercooler system featuring single-pass coolant flow. The Techco supercharger's 3.0-liter's of displacement is the largest among all Corvette twin-screws, pumping approximately 50 percent more air into each cylinder during every intake stroke. This highly efficient design produces the most horsepower and torque per psi of boost pressure (6 psi) of any supercharger on the market today, approximately 600 bhp/535 lb-ft versus the stock Corvette V8's 430 bhp/424 lb-ft.

And it fits neatly and cleanly under the stock Corvette hood. No other twin-screw or Roots supercharger can make that claim.

"The ground-up design is advanced in every way," says Techco Chief Engineer Bill Tally. "From the in-house manufacturing of our Reverse Revolution rotor screws; front intake system; long, high-flow runners; stand-alone 8-rib drive system; and our patented dual AFrame Intercooler system, no area of the supercharger was overlooked or taken for granted. This is a complete rethink and a clean sheet design that will take the industry by storm," Tally continued.

"Our TECHCO Twin-Screw Supercharger Kit for the Corvette is the culmination of everything we've learned in design and development since we first began supercharging V8 engines more than a decade ago," adds John Spruill, Vice President of Engineering. "With our large 3.0-liter displacement supercharger, the throttle response on-boost is amazing. It's a real blast to drive!"

What makes the Techco 3.0-liter Reverse-Revolution Twin-Screw Supercharger so revolutionary is the unique design (patent pending), which optimizes airflow efficiency throughout. Incoming air is fed into the front of the supercharger, not the back like conventional designs. This ensures that the incoming air has minimal turns, eliminating restrictions, before entering into the supercharger housing. Additionally, without the need for a complex inlet tube, the largest possible orifice size is maintained, maximizing airflow efficiencies. The air then flows into the lobes of the Reverse-Revolution asymmetric multiô€€€lobe compressor screws, where it is compressed, not merely moved, as in other forms of supercharging. The compressed air then flows into the intercooler housing, which contains two intercoolers, mounted in an A-frame configuration to ensure the airflow is evenly distributed to each runner bank. The patent pending Twin Intercooler design results in higher cooling capacity and greater thermal efficiencies as the cooling water only has to pass through the intercoolers once, keeping the charge air cool. A further benefit of the front Inlet Design is the additional package space above the supercharger that is used for long high flow Intake Runners, which increases lowend torque. The resulting design of the Techco Reverseô€€€Revolution Twin-Screw Supercharger allows air to move through the supercharger quickly and efficiently, without significant heat buildup, and at the highest resulting airflow volume and air density at low boost output. The performance result is maximized horsepower and torque output.

And for extreme power-hungry enthusiasts, Techco is also offering Optional Boost Upgrade Kits (starting at 10 psi), which offer increased power output from 650 bhp on up.

Price $8,500 (Optional Polished Upgrade: $10,000)

News bits: Pontiac G8 to live on, Z28 dead again, Viper alive, NHRA loses GM

A busy day for news coming out of Detroit.

First, as you all well know, Bob Lutz has returned to GM, which has emerged from bankruptcy. The boss wasted no time informing Automobile Magazine that the Pontiac G8will live on in the form of a Chevy Caprice destined for the U.S. "The last time we looked at [the G8], we decided that we would continue to import it as a Chevrolet. It is kind of too good to waste," Lutz told the mag.

On the subject of the on again, off again Camaro Z28, Lutz somewhat denied the fact that the car will live on to see the light of day, though he didn't deny it.

It has also been reported that GM is pulling the 'chute on it's NHRA funding, which should come as no surprise. The company is trying to slim down in size and trim it's spending. "I knew it was coming, I was forewarned," Ken Black, NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock team owner told CompetitionPlus.com. "That's why they filed bankruptcy ... to get rid of all of this stuff."

Lastly, we look to GM's bankruptcy partner in Chrysler for our last news bit of the day. It appears that the Viper brand is no longer for sale, and is safe to live on for now. Chrysler reportedly only received one, rather lowball offer from Devon Motor Works. Check out the brief press release below for more info.

PRESS RELEASE:

Chrysler Group LLC announced today that production will continue for the legendary Dodge Viper SRT10.

Originally slated to cease production in December 2009, the Chrysler Group Connor Avenue Assembly Plant -- the exclusive home of Dodge Viper production since 1995 -- will continue to build the V-10 powered sports car. Chrysler Group is no longer pursuing a sale of the Viper business assets.

"The Dodge Viper has successfully captured the hearts and imagination of performance enthusiasts around the globe," said Mike Accavitti, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dodge Brand. "We're extremely proud that the ultimate American-built sports car with its world-class performance will live on as the iconic image leader for the Dodge brand. "

Introduced as a concept car in 1989 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Dodge Viper was designed and engineered to test public reaction to the concept of a back-to-basics, high-performance, limited production sports car.

The reaction was so overwhelming that customer orders began to flow in even before the auto show was over. Chrysler Corporation immediately decided to determine the production feasibility on transforming the crowd-pleasing Dodge Viper show car into a limited-production sports car in no more than three years.

In May 1990, after months of intensive study and testing, Chrysler Corporation announced that the Dodge Viper, powered by an aluminum V-10 was a "go."

Dodge Viper production began in May 1992 at the New Mack Assembly Plant and was moved to Conner Avenue in October 1995. Viper V-10 engine production transferred from Mound Road Engine to Conner Avenue Assembly in May 2001. In 2008, Dodge introduced the all-new, fourth generation Dodge Viper SRT10. With more horsepower, more torque and more than 30 exterior and interior color combinations, the latest Viper gives enthusiasts the performance they expect on the track and off, with more factory customization options than before.

For 2009, the Dodge Viper SRT10 offers outrageous power, with an 8.4-liter, 600-horsepower (450 kW) V-10 engine contributing to blistering acceleration (0-60 mph in less than four seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the low 12-second range), setting an American sports car benchmark.

To date, more than 25,000 Dodge Vipers have been built.

Hurst Competition/Plus Dodge Challenger

Hurst has just announced it's latest version of the Dodge Challenger at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, CA. Dubbed the Competition/Plus package, it's not sporting the typical white and gold colors that have become synonymous with the Hurst brand.

The Competition/Plus package was developed in an effort to provide a more economical way for Challenger owners to upgrade their rides, and for those who wanted to have a Hurst that didn't necessarily have to be gold. The package is named after one of the company's legendary shifters.

Only the essentials are present: Hurst 20-inch alloy wheels, color-matched leather inserts and stitching for the interior, matte black exterior accents, and of course a Competition/Plus shifter. Pricing has yet to be announced, but full details should be available soon.

Twin turbo Viper V-10 powered Mustang

I for one am not totally crazy about cross breeding engine with car make. But there's something to be said about a Viper V-10 being placed in a Mustang, and it's certainly worth a look.

Scott Vanderschoor, a regular on Bang Shift forums, is building it. And to make it a little more powerful, placing a pair of turbos on the V-10 for good measure. Not surprisingly, Vanderschoor had to move the firewall back six inches to make room for the 8.4L beast.

Check out the video to see the beast being cranked up for the first time. Kinda strange hearing that sort of noise coming from a Mustang.

GM confirms Camaro Z28, meanwhile the Camaro outsells Mustang in June

It was feared that the powerhouse Z28 would die a premature death thanks in large part to the ailing economy, GM's bankruptcy, and rising oil prices. But the well connected folks at Camaro5, the Z28 will appear after the Camaro convertible, which is expected in the spring of 2011.

The Z will reportedly offer more power (duh), a hood similar to the Bumblebee edition, a unique grill, and other assorted bits and pieces that make it unique.

In other news, the long drought of the Camaro has obviously gotten fans of the car excited as their beloved pony car has taken out the Mustang in sales for the month of June. GM says it sold a total of 9,320 Camaros, while Ford sold 7,632 Mustangs.

For those who are curious, Dodge sold a meager 1,369 Challengers.
