Video: Shelby's 1000+ hp GT500 prototype is real

Photobucket

A few weeks ago we caught wind of a possible new Shelby prototype, a twin turbo powered GT500 that would exceed 1000 horsepower. And now we have a real, live prototype to show you.

Nicknamed "Code Red," this uber powerful GT500 was created in a collaboration between Shelby American and Nelson Racing Engines. The (obviously) modified 5.4 liter has been breathed on courtesy of twin 61mm Turbonetics turbochargers, a duel fuel setup (to run race gas as well as pump gas), and an electronic boost controller.

Other goodies include 14 inch Baer brakes, adjustable suspension, 10 point roll cage, 9 inch rear, and an estimated $100,000 price tag. There's no word on possible production of Code Red, so for now we can only dream and admire the glorious sounds it makes in the video below.

SHELBY AMERICAN RELEASES FINAL SPECS AND NEW 600+ HP OPTION FOR 2011 GT350
10/7/2010

• 2011 Shelby GT350 supercharge package has 525 HP; normally aspirated has 430 HP
• 624 horsepower optional
• All 2011 GT350s are built at the Las Vegas facility and documented in the official Shelby Registry

LAS VEGAS – October 7, 2010 – Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK) has released the official performance specs of the supercharged and normally aspirated post title packages for the Shelby GT350, as well as a new higher horsepower option for the 5.0 liter powered car. With up to 624 horsepower on tap via an optional "R" tune, the 2011 Shelby GT350 is one of the most powerful limited production cars in the world.

"Our goal was to build the ultimate small block muscle car," said John Luft, president of Shelby American. "The results show that the Shelby GT350 takes American performance to an entirely new level. In recent tests, the standard supercharged car hit 60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds and ran the quarter in 12 seconds flat at 121.4 mph, all while generating 1.05g of lateral acceleration and stopping from 60 mph in only 107 feet. 2011 Roush 5XR Mustang

Photobucket

The Ford Mustang is plenty capable in its own right, what with a 412hp 5.0 and all. But the growing level of power in the popular pony car has only served to grow its aftermarket following over the years, as countless aftermarket parts and turnkey cars turn up year after year.

Roush is a big player in the game, producing quality parts and whole cars that are ready to roll. For 2011 they are introducing the 5XR, the latest and greatest in a long standing tradition of fast Fords. The 5XR makes its power thanks (mostly) to a R2300 ROUSHcharger, pumping out 525hp and 465lb-ft of torque.

The 5XR isn't just about a supercharger, of course. A host of body modifications come with the package, along with the appropriate badges. Other performance mods include suspension upgrades, 20 inch chrome wheels, and Cooper RS3 tires that help put the power to the road.

The 5XR is a limited run of which only 150 examples will be produced. Prospective owners will have to provide the Mustang for the conversion, which Roush certified Ford dealers can install for $15,390.

Press Release

LIVONIA, Mich. – Jack Roush is a man who knows how to coax horsepower from an engine. ROUSH® has become an automotive powerhouse based on this simple premise, and he couldn't wait to get his hands, and his engineering team, on the new Ford 5.0L engine. The end result, and the car fans of the ROUSH Mustang have been waiting for, is the 2011 ROUSH 5XR™ Mustang with "more power" under the hood thanks to the factory-installed ROUSHcharger®.

Make no mistake, the 2011 ROUSH 5XR is a runner. With the R2300 ROUSHcharger installed the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang will sport an "extreme" 525 horsepower under the hood, along with an "exciting" 465 lb.-ft. of torque. To keep the "exclusivity" high, there will be a maximum of just 150 units of the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang built, each with a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty on the powertrain and ROUSH components. The 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang is available in a coupe or convertible, but only with a six-speed manual transmission.

"I'm always excited to get an opportunity to work on a new engine, and the Ford 5.0-liter is a great platform. It has 412 horsepower to begin with, but our group was able to coax out another 113 horsepower with the ROUSHcharger. The 2011 ROUSH 5XR runs fast, sounds great, and is another amazing addition to the ROUSH Mustang heritage," said Jack Roush, motorsports legend and chairman of ROUSH Enterprises.

To handle the road, a ROUSH suspension kit has been installed to provide superior handling and ride control. This includes front struts, rear shocks and rear springs, front and rear stabilizer bars. The car rides on ROUSH 20-inch chrome rims with high-performance Cooper RS3 tires.

The installed ROUSH exhaust with square tips gives the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang a deep, throaty sound worthy of a supercharged American V-8 muscle car. The aggressive ROUSH body kit changes the appearance of the car so people know that this is not just any Ford Mustang prowling the roads. The appearance upgrades include a ROUSH front fascia with driving lamps, front chin splitter, side rocker splitters, rear valance and three-piece decklid spoiler. A ROUSH upper billet grille streamlines the front of the vehicle and provides some additional cooling to the engine, and a unique 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang graphics package trims out the appearance of this limited edition vehicle. Badging unique to this vehicle can be found throughout the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang.

One thing that makes this car different from previous ROUSH Mustangs is that the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang will be sold only as a post-title vehicle. This means that the authorized ROUSH-Ford dealership must pre-sell the car to a customer or title the vehicle before the order can be placed in the ROUSH system. The 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang is not available for sale in California. Please contact your local ROUSH-authorized Ford dealer for more information, or visit www.ROUSHperformance.com to locate your nearest dealer.

A letter of authenticity, personally signed by Jack Roush, will be sent to each buyer of the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang. The 2011 ROUSH 5XR package carries a suggested retail price of $15,390 in addition to the cost of the base Mustang chassis.

In addition to the rich collection of standard features, a variety of upgrade options are available for the 2011 ROUSH 5XR Mustang, including color-matched sport leather seats, big four-piston brakes with 14-inch slotted rotors, vent pod gauge, and a lower three-piece billet grille. Shelby reveals 2011 GT500 Super Snake, with up to 800 hp

Photobucket

The 2010 Shelby Super Snake was the king of all Mustangs, pumping out an insane 750 horsepower in a factory-like package. But if you thought that it had too much power, apparently Shelby didn't agree with you. Because they have upped the ante to an astounding 800 for their 2011 Super Snake.

Of course, you can opt for lesser packages that produce a more mundane 660 and 750 horsepower, but why mess around with that? Other new bits for the 2011 model are anthracite wheels, side scoops, and white stripes. The package starts at $30,245 (sans Mustang) and can be built for you at Shelby's Las Vegas shop or any of their others around the country.

Press Release

Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), will offer a Super Snake post title package for the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 with new styling cues and an optional 800 horsepower tuned engine. Only 1,000 total Super Snake packages for the 2011 model year car will be built at the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas or one of the official Shelby Mod Shops, beginning in September of this year.

"Ford Motor Company did a marvelous job making the 2011 model year GT500 lighter and more powerful," said John Luft, president of Shelby American. "Our team applied its experience building Super Snakes over the past several years to offer a package that dramatically increases the new car's capabilities. And with the visual changes we've made, it will be a definite stand out on the road or track."

Just like the 2011 Shelby GT350, born on the proving grounds of the drag strip and road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Shelby American worked with companies like Ford Racing to create an even more aggressive suspension and engine package for the 2011 Super Snake.

"We extensively tested our mods for the 2011 model car before we decided the package was ready for the public," added Gary Davis, vice president of production and R&D at Shelby American. "For those who want more performance than the stock GT500 offers, the Super Snake will definitely meet their expectations."

For the 2011 model year, more power, a new anthracite wheel, white stripes and new side scoops are optional.

"We've only offered black stripes and chrome wheels on the Super Snake since we introduced the package a couple of years ago," added Davis. "With the serious advancements made to the 2011 model year, it was time to differentiate it from the previous generation car. So we added an 800 horsepower tune, optional wheel, side scoop and stripes to make it easy to spot the new Shelby Super Snake."

The 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake post title package includes:

• Ford Racing handling pack including dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars, and front strut tower brace
• 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73:1 rear axle ratio
• Shelby/Ford Racing supercharger upgrade producing over 660 HP and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque
• Either a Shelby/Ford Racing or Shelby/Kenne Bell supercharger kit producing 750 HP with upgraded drive shaft, billet twin 75mm throttle body and exclusive badges
• Optional Shelby/Kenne Bell 800 horsepower tune on pump gas
• Borla exhaust system
• An optional Shelby / Eibach handling pack is also available
• Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels in durabright or anthracite
• Short-throw shifter
• Forged Shelby / Baer brakes with 6 piston calipers and cross drilled / vented rotors
• Front brake cooling ducts and behind the door side scoops
• Unique fiberglass hood featuring classic Shelby design and pins
• Shelby signature Super Snake stripes in either matte black or matte white
• "Shelby" lettering across the rear deck lid
• "Super Snake" vehicle badges and official Shelby CSM interior plate
• Optional two tone leather interior
• Shelby signature embroidered headrests, floor mats and other Shelby designed components

The price of the 750 HP package is $30,245 including installation but not the car. Each vehicle will be listed in the official Shelby registry. Complete Super Snake packages will only be available through Shelby American and its mod shops. Customers interested in a Shelby GT500 Super Snake should call (702) 942-7325 or log onto www.shelbyamerican.com.

2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 dealer allocation will be limited, lottery based

Photobucket

As good as the new Mustang Boss 302 promises to be, we were certain to see some limitations on supply and no limitation on demand leading up to the car's launch. Most every popular new model experiences some markups and limited accessibility early in its life cycle, and the Boss figures to be no exception.

According to Boss302Forum.com, allocation will be determined in two ways. Large volume dealers that make up 75 percent of sales will receive 75 percent of the allocation. The actual number of cars that those dealers receive will be based on the last 12 months of sales ending in September of 2010 but each dealer is guaranteed at least one Boss.

The remaining 25 percent will be determined via a lottery, with each dealer getting a chip initially and an additional chip for each Mustang it has sold in the last 12 months. The outcome of this is pretty much guaranteed to involve a lot of markups and massive demand, especially since Ford has already announced that the new Boss will be the best handling Mustang ever. As always, if you want the prestige of owning a special car before most everyone else, you will have to pay the price.

Shelby wants to know what you want from them, shows new models including twin turbo GT500

Photobucket

After announcing that they would be focusing more on producing parts than entire cars, Shelby built a brand new speed shop in Las Vegas and has brought its manufacturing in house. And now they have posted a query on their website asking what you want from the company going forward. In the process, they have proposed a few new models including a V6 Mustang and a twin turbo Shelby GT500.

The twin turbo GT500 is code named 2010-04a, and features a setup that promises to exceed 1000 horsepower (at the wheels) and is based on the 2009 and prior model. Other goodies include an adjustable suspension to lay that power to the pavement, a 10 point roll cage, and a widebody kit.
Photobucket
The V6 Mustang is perhaps a model that is long overdue, as the sixer is actually a very potent motor in itself and the majority of Mustang sales feature the smaller powerplant underhood. This car is tentatively called the Shelby GTS, and is already a working prototype. The package features a number of visual upgrades and figures to cost between $9,000 and $12,000.

In addition to these two models, there are a pair of other concepts on the Shelby American site, as well as a repop Cobra concept.

In addition to the aero bits, the car features 20 inch wheels, lowering springs, 3:31rear gears, and some other niceties. The DUB Edition will be available next week at Ford dealers nationwide, starting with a launch party at Galpin Ford in Van Nuys California this weekend. Pricing is a very reasonable $3,599 plus $100 for shipping.

Roush supercharger for Coyote 5.0 now available

Photobucket

Hot on the heels of Ford Racing's own pair of superchargers comes the latest power adder for the 2011 Mustang GT, the ROUSHcharger by none other than Roush. The Roush setup is based on the TVS2300 setup, which replaces the Eaton M90, was first seen on the P-51A Mustang and is now available to everyone with deep enough pockets.

The 90mm pulley brings boost up to 7 psi, and the supercharger features 47 lb. fuel injectors, high-flow fuel rails, a high-flow ROUSH air lid, and a twin 60mm throttle body. The kit boosts horsepower to around 550 with 470 lb-ft of torque, and can be had for a suggested retail price of $5,999.

Press Release

LIVONIA, Mich. (August 26, 2010) – Since the day Ford announced the new 5.0L engine for the 2011 Mustang, people have been asking, "What is ROUSH® going to do with that engine? When will the ROUSHcharger® be available?"

The answer to those questions is finally available. ROUSH has engineered a 5.0L ROUSHcharger Tuner Kit that can boost the horsepower on the 2011 Mustang upwards of 550 horsepower on stock pump gasoline with more than 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This 5.0L ROUSHcharger Tuner Kit (part number 421140) has a suggested retail price of $5,999.00 and is available for shipment now.

Many people got their first look at the 5.0L ROUSHcharger in the ROUSH display at Mustang Alley during the Woodward Dream Cruise. The display car got many double takes as people walked by, looked, and then realized that car was, in fact, a 2011 Mustang with a ROUSHcharger installed.

Based on the popular TVS2300 ROUSHcharger, the 5.0L ROUSHcharger Tuner Kit comes with a 90mm pulley and generates an estimated seven pounds of boost. Included in the kit are 47 lb. fuel injectors, high-flow fuel rails, a high-flow ROUSH air lid, and a twin 60mm throttle body. The heavy-duty ROUSH tensioner is included for the first FEAD belt.

This Tuner Kit includes a 90-day parts warranty, but does not come with a calibration or maintain the Ford factory engine warranty. Professional tuning and installation is recommended.

"While the new Ford five-liter engine offers amazing performance right from the factory, and the new ROUSHcharger will kick it up a level," said Jack Roush, motorsports legend and chairman of ROUSH Enterprises. "Our engineering team has worked hard to deliver a product that will satisfy the demands of the ROUSH customer on an extremely tight deadline, and they have come up with another great solution for a powertrain upgrade."

Orders for the 5.0L ROUSHcharger Tuner Kit are now being accepted by calling 1-800-59-ROUSH. Information can be found online at www.ROUSHperformance.com.

There will be a 5.0L ROUSHcharger Kit available this fall that will come complete with a ROUSH calibration and full warranty. Pricing and details to come.

Ford Racing offering supercharger kits for Coyote 5.0, boosts horsepower up to 624

Photobucket

With the introduction of the Coyote 5.0 in the 2011 Mustang, we've been anxiously awaiting the corresponding flow of performance parts. New technology is always exciting with performance engines, especially because it brings with it amazing potential for power increases by simply bolting on some aftermarket parts.

This past weekend at the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, Ford Racing showed off its new supercharger for the all new 5.0 V8, and its a thumper. Displacing 2.3 liters, the Whipple twin screw unit boasts an air-to-liquid intercooler and 47 lb/hr injectors.

The base package provides 525hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is backed up by a 12 mont/12,000 mile warranty when installed by a Ford or Lincoln dealer. The second kit pumps out a whopping 624hp and 536 lb-ft of torque, but does not come with a warranty.

The third option allows users to build their own custom system and choose a tuner kit, which comes with core components and needs to be independently calibrated so that it can work with the engine's computer.

Press Release

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Racing has announced today the availability of a new, 2.3L twin-screw supercharger for the 2011 Mustang. When mated to the all-new 5.0L 4V TiVCT V8 engine, this 50-state-legal powertrain, can produce 624 hp SAE @ 6900 rpm and 536 lb-ft SAE @ 4700 rpm. This is the first Twin-screw unit available to consumers.

The new supercharger is Ford Racing's first power upgrade component for the new 5.0 engine. It was developed by Ford Racing engineers, in close collaboration with Ford Motor Company's powertrain engineers, Team Mustang, and key partners in Roush and Whipple. The supercharger is being seen for the first time Saturday at the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Ford's Mustang Alley display.

"Superchargers are the ultimate in power upgrades for Mustang enthusiasts," says George Goddu, Ford Racing Performance Group Manager. "Calibration for a modern V8 engine, especially one with twin-independent variable cam timing, is incredibly complex. Production calibration for the 5.0 engine took 19 months. Having that knowledge base to work from is a huge advantage.

"In fact we had the whole engineering background of the engine right from initial concept," Goddu added. "With that knowledge base, and extensive collaboration across the team, we are able to offer a top-notch supercharger, induction kit and the optimum calibration. This results in great power, drivability and durability."

"After more than 100 hours of accelerated durability testing, the entire Ford Racing package performed flawlessly," reports Dev Saberwal, Ford Racing's lead calibration engineer. "Ford Racing performance parts are subjected to extensive testing to ensure optimum performance across a broad range of conditions."

This supercharger comes as a complete package, and it's available in three levels: a 525 hp kit with a 12/12 warranty; a 624 hp kit and a tuner kit for racing and extreme enthusiasts. Each of these impressive kits gives 2011 Mustang owners the opportunity to boost the performance of their cars to new levels.

Ford Racing Performance Parts offers a large selection of performance products from complete race cars to injectors. For Mustang enthusiasts Ford Racing's catalog of performance upgrades offers a range of enhancements for the 2011 Mustang as well as a wide range of power, chassis-system and appearance upgrades for 2010, 2005-2009 and earlier Mustangs.

Ford, Roush, and Shelby team up to build SR-71 inspired Mustang

Photobucket

Of all the aftermarket names associated with Mustang performance and parts, Roush and Shelby are two of the biggest. Neither is a stranger to building parts or even whole turnkey performance versions of the venerable pony car. But work together to build one? That's not something you see every day.

In each of the last two years Ford has built a special edition Mustang for auction to benefit the Young Eagles association at EAA AirVenture, the AV8R Mustang and the AV-X10. This year's car will be inspired by the SR-71 Blackbird, and will bring together Jack Roush and Caroll Shelby for the first time.

The reworked 2011 GT features a black and gray matte exterior, custom SVT wheels, roll cage, Ford Racing supercharger, upgraded suspension, and a custom exhaust. The Recaro seats feature both Jack Roush and Caroll Shelby's signature. The SR-71 Blackbird Mustang will go on display in the Ford Hangar at EAA AirVenture beginning July 26th.

Press Release

DEARBORN, Mich., July 13, 2010 – Two automotive icons, legendary racer and manufacturer Carroll Shelby, and world-renowned racer, engineer and designer Jack Roush, have come together in their first vehicle collaboration project to join Ford in creating a one-off 2011 Mustang, the aviation-themed SR-71 "Blackbird." The one-of-a-kind vehicle will be sold at the Gathering of Eagles July 29 during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) 2010 AirVenture Oshkosh, the world's greatest aviation celebration. Ford is the exclusive automotive partner of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and all of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the EAA Young Eagles organization. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will be held from July 26 to Aug. 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis.

The "SR-71" designation holds a dual meaning for the one-of-a-kind, fully-customized Mustang. First, "SR-71" refers to the car's design and performance-inspired connection with the SR-71 Blackbird, the aircraft that holds all official airspeed and altitude records and is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular planes ever produced. Second, "SR" represents the first collaborative project between Shelby and Roush. Mustang Chief Designer Darrell Behmer led design for the project and Mustang Chief Nameplate Engineer Dave Pericak led the engineering effort. Ford Racing Performance Parts were also added to further enhance the exclusivity of the car. The sale of the SR-71 "Blackbird" will highlight an evening of festivities at the EAA Gathering of Eagles July 29 during AirVenture.

The group that will directly benefit from the auction proceeds is EAA's Young Eagles, which has provided free introductory flights to more than 1.5 million young people since 1992, while also teaching the value of hard work, personal responsibility and enhanced math and science skills. "Ford Motor Company's historic tie to aviation is no better represented than by the company's commitment as a continued partner of EAA and AirVenture, a celebration of flight here in Oshkosh that is unmatched anywhere else in the world," said Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman and president.

"Ford's generosity in donating the Mustang SR-71 'Blackbird' to the Gathering of Eagles further demonstrates a dedication to supporting aviation and inspiring aviation enthusiasts of all ages."

In 2008, Ford's inaugural vehicle specially-built in support of the Young Eagles, the one-of-a-kind Mustang AV8R, raised a record $500,000 for the charity. "The excitement around the 2008 AV8R, our first one-off Mustang ever produced, inspired us to push for another, first, the collaboration of Carroll Shelby and Jack Roush," said Edsel B Ford II, a member of Ford's Board of Directors. "This year's SR-71 Blackbird is a special tribute to Ford's lineage of performance vehicles, as well as to the promising innovators of EAA's Young Eagles." Ford vehicles sold at auction during past EAA AirVenture events have collectively raised more than $1 million to support the Young Eagles.

The Mustang SR-71 "Blackbird" is Build #1 of 1 and presents a truly unique opportunity for collectors. The vehicle is based on a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 with the glass roof option. Ford Racing performance modifications (Supercharger, Handling Pack, tuned exhaust, and exhaust tips) generate 100 additional horsepower from the all-aluminum 5.0L 32-valve V8 engine. The special racing Handling Pack optimizes the performance experience and lowers the ride height by 1-inch.

From there, the car takes on a design personality similar to that of the original SR-71 Blackbird aircraft. The Mustang's stunning design theme includes black and gray matte exterior paint with harmonious SR-71 themed graphic treatment, performance wheels, front and rear fascias and an integrated spoiler/wing to reflect the car's connection with its namesake aircraft, which made its inaugural flight in 1964, the year the first Ford Mustang came off the line. The "Blackbird" nickname is reflected in the car's exterior paint treatment, complete with markings from the liquids which leaked and streaked until the plane came up to speed. A unique screen print glass roof design and exterior artwork reflect the unbridled spirit of the Ford Design team.

The interior cockpit will seat only two and includes a roll-cage, racing seats and fire extinguisher, The signatures of Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby are embroidered into the seats, and special gauges and instrument cluster graphics have been added.

Enhancing the value and allure of the vehicle, the Mustang SR-71 "Blackbird" will feature an appliqué autograph area capturing Roush and Shelby's signatures and badging to further reinforce the uniqueness of the car. The vehicle will be on display at the Ford Hangar at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh beginning July 26.

Additionally, Ford and EAA will give AirVenture attendees the chance to win a 2011 Mustang GT convertible and other cash prizes in a raffle, with proceeds benefiting the EAA Young Eagles program.

During EAA AirVenture, Ford also will offer attendees access to the latest advances in automobile technology, as well as many of the industry's most revered classics at the popular "Ford Hangar" on the grounds of Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Hyundai to make its own 5.0 with 429 horsepower?

Photobucket

Hyundai is making a name for itself in the car world the last few years, as it keeps introducing less expensive alternatives to other car makes. When they rolled out the Genesis coupe, it was clear that the Korean automaker was serious about entering into the sports car realm. And while it may not quite be a musclecar by definition, many have deemed it a Mustang fighter.

And now it may quite literally be fighting the Mustang. It appears that Hyundai is gearing up to offer a 5.0L V8 of their own, a bored out version of their 4.6L V8. This new motor was announced somewhat at a recent media event, and power is said to be a Mustang beating 429 hp at 6,500 rpm and 376 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm when it reaches production.

Of course, nothing is official yet. And if Hyundai's 5.0 does make its way into the Genesis coupe, Ford is sure to up the ante even more. Heck, Chevrolet and Ford are already fighting the good horsepower fight. Another entry in the field can't hurt, right?

Ford offering official reproduction restoration parts

Photobucket

The automotive aftermarket is a lucrative business. Parts bring in big money, and we live in a country that loves to be original especially with our cars. So you certainly can't blame Ford for wanting a bigger piece of the pie.

Ford is now offering over 9,000 officially licensed parts for its cars and trucks going all the way back to the 1909 Model T. The Ford Parts catalog offers such niceties as complete body shells for 1967, '68, '69, and '70 Mustangs. Body shells for the first generation Bronco are also available, along with tons of other hard to find stuff.

Press Release

HELP DAD KEEP HIS FAVORITE RIDE ON THE ROAD THIS FATHER'S DAY WITH FORD LICENSED RESTORATION PARTS Ford restoration parts licensing program offers a portfolio of more than 9,000 parts for vehicles from 1909 to the early 2000s
Enthusiasts can now build nearly a complete 1967 Mustang from the ground up using brand-new reproduction components. About 98 percent of the Mustang's parts are being reproduced.
Many parts are manufactured on original Ford tooling, then carefully checked against original blueprints to ensure quality and aesthetics before being offered for sale

DEARBORN, Mich., June 7, 2010 – As Father's Day approaches, Ford is proud to support the millions of enthusiasts nationwide who keep antique and classic Ford-built vehicles on the road. And nowhere is that support more evident than through the official Ford licensed restoration parts program.

With a growing parts portfolio containing more than 9,000 part numbers, the program licenses parts for Ford-built vehicles from the Model T to those made as recently as the early 2000s. Every component is produced by one of the officially licensed suppliers, made to Ford Motor Company standards using original factory tooling. No longer do enthusiasts have to spend hours online looking for rare new old stock parts, nor do they have to wander through scrap yards looking for used parts for their classics. Chances are the part is available new and just a mouse click away.
The program is so comprehensive that an enthusiast can actually construct a "new" vintage Ford using reproduction parts.

"You can literally build a 1967 Mustang using officially licensed Ford restoration parts right from your computer, without ever visiting a wrecking yard," says Dennis Mondrach, Restoration Licensing manager, Ford Component Sales (FCS). "Complete steel bodyshells are available, Ford Racing can supply crate motors, and specialty manufacturers make all the hardware, drivetrain, interior parts and even instruments with classic or customized faces. You can build your car as a classic or upgrade the components you choose."

Ford currently offers four complete Mustang bodies covering 1967 to 1970. Later this fall, Ford will introduce its first truck-based body for restorers of the classic 1960s Bronco.

The strict licensing process helps ensure any parts bearing the company's official trademarks meet the quality standards and authenticity that classic Ford enthusiasts demand. Each approved part comes with a blue-and-white sticker with the Ford logo stating it is an officially licensed restoration part. That means the fit, function and appearance is as authentic as the original.

"When Ford stops making a part and retires the tooling, that tooling is offered to FCS," explains Mondrach. "Based on the type of component and whether we think it would be of interest to the vintage vehicle market, we then offer it to one of our 75 licensed manufacturers and they put the tooling back into service.

"The end result," Mondrach says, "is that owners of vintage Ford vehicles get a source of factory-correct parts made on Ford tooling."

Restoring a classic Ford-built vehicle in the family garage has been an American tradition for decades. Tens of thousands of fathers have shown their sons and daughters how to restore a car using a Model A, Model T, Thunderbird, Mustang or F-Series. According to Hagerty Collector Car Insurance of Traverse City, Mich., the worldwide leader in collector car insurance, four Ford-built vehicles are among the top 10 most popular cars it insures. Mustang, for example, is No. 2 on this year's list, according to Hagerty.

Accurate reproduction parts make the restoration process easier, and for those enthusiasts who decide to show the finished product, they can make the difference between a trophy and an empty-handed trip home. The Ford licensing program has been singled out for special recognition from both the Mustang Club of America and the Thunderbird Club of America for supplying components identical to original Ford parts.

"Before a supplier can sell a licensed part – even one produced on Ford tooling – they are required to submit a sample for approval," said Mondrach. "We compare the sample to original blueprints and engineering specifications and ensure the part meets or exceeds the original piece in quality, aesthetics and functionality."

All Ford restoration parts licensees must successfully complete a quality assurance survey and meet all federal and state safety regulations. To assist in the monitoring of ongoing production quality, master samples of each restoration part are retained after approval and used as quality benchmarks for future production runs.

FCS tries to ensure a supply of frequently needed components is available to the restoration community, particularly interior parts and delicate trim pieces.

"We really try to provide the common parts that might be damaged or lost in an accident," explained Mondrach. "Many of those plastic and metal parts look exactly like the originals and are made on original tooling, but benefit from improved plastics and metallurgy, resulting in a higher-quality component than what was originally supplied on the vehicle."

On the other hand, Ford licensed restoration suppliers also reproduce very specialized components – in specialized original materials – for some of the first Ford products to hit the road.

"We license original Model A and T parts like the famous ah-ooga horn and many unique brass parts," said Mondrach. "Model T enthusiasts can even get licensed replacement handmade brass radiators.

"Whether you're rebuilding a classic Ford, Lincoln, Edsel or Mercury from scratch, or simply prepping your vintage vehicle for its next show," he adds, "Ford Restoration probably has many of the parts you need."

Video: 2011 Shelby GT500, now with better sound!

A few days back we had a video featuring a 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 making the rounds at Virginia International Raceway, besting the '10 model's time by 9 seconds. While the video was nice, the sound wasn't the greatest. To correct this travesty, this new video has enough good noise to make up for the first.

Videos: 2011 Ford Mustangs already in the 10's

The 2011 Ford Mustang is already one of the more powerful Mustangs ever offered. It also promises to have a boatload of potential for those so inclined to improve upon what Ford has created, which is most everyone who purchases one. The Mustang has always been a blank canvas of sorts for those who want to make it faster.

The first to achieve a 10 second quarter mile run in a 2011 model are the folks at JPC Racing. Thanks to 4.56 gears, tighter upper and lower control arms, racing slicks, and a 100hp shot of nitrous. The best time they recorded was a 10.96 @ 125.75 mph.

A little while later, Evolution Performance ran a 10.88 @ 126.66 mph using 3.73 gears, a prototype cool air intake, Eaton Trutrac differential, D.O.T. approved racing tires and a 100 shot of nitrous.

These numbers are certainly impressive in themselves, and show what kind of potential the new 5.0 possesses. Given some time to play around with the new mill, we are excited to see what kind of untapped potential it has.

Inside line pits 2011 Ford Mustang and Camaro V6 in first comparo

Photobucket

Right on the heels of the very first comparison test between the 2011 Ford Mustang GT and the Camaro SS comes this, the first between the base V6 models thanks to Inside Line. And while it may not have all the glitz and glamour of a V8 showdown, rest assured you will see more of these models in the real world of rental cars and high school kids.

The ultra heavy Camaro (3,790 pounds!) ran a respectable 14.3 second quarter mile, 6.1 seconds 0-60, and pulled a .83g on the skidpad. 60-0 braking took 111.78 feet. All of which are pretty good numbers.

But then along came the Mustang with its lighter 3,508 pound mass. It ran a 13.9 second quarter mile (!!!), took 5.6 seconds to get to 60, and pulled a .91g on the skidpad. 60-0 took a mere 103 feet.

So the Mustang handily beats the Camaro yet again. But rest assured that Chevrolet will not take this laying down. Word is that they are already hard at work making some changes, which we may see sooner than later.
