Hurst Pontiac H.O. G8 and G6
Pontiac is getting ready to head to the graveyard of automotive marquees, much like the Plymouths and Oldsmobiles of the past. It's unfortunate for several reasons, one of which is that the G8 is an excellent and underrated car. But Hurst Performance Vehicles, makers of the legendary shifters and most recently the Hurst Hemi Challenger, is going to send Pontiac out with a bang.
Hurst today announced it's plans for an H.O. version of the G6 and G8. Few details have been released regarding the car's respective performance upgrades, but each will feature Hurst's signature black/gold or white/gold paint scheme, forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension upgrades, and a newly trimmed interior.
Hurst sought out performance icon "Doc" Watson, who developed such vehicles as the Hurst Hemi-Under-Glass and the 1972 Pontiac SSJ. Only 52 Hurst H.O. Pontiacs will be built along with ten G6 convertibles used as parade and special event vehicles. More details regarding performance upgrades will be available August 1st, but check out the press release below for more details on the two cars.
PRESS RELEASE:
Flint, Mich. (June 29, 2009) – Hurst Performance Vehicles, one of the most recognized and respected names in automobile history, announced that it has teamed up with newly appointed Hurst Director Emeritus and legendary performance visionary, "Doc" Watson, to build two new Special Edition Hurst/Pontiacs – a 2010 HURST/Pontiac H.O. version of the G8 and a G6 convertible. Hurst Performance President, Ron Flint, and Watson made the announcement together on Saturday at a special event held at the Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan – the birthplace of GM.
Hurst Performance in Irvine, California, will hand-build only 52 examples of the 2010 HURST/Pontiac H.O. – a modern-day version of George Hurst's "Executive Hot Rod". These numbered cars will feature Hurst's iconic white/gold and black/gold colors along with forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension mods and a specially trimmed interior.
Hurst will also commemorate Doc's famous Pace Cars and build ten HURST/Pontiac G6 convertibles to be used as parade and special event cars.
"Doc started all of this with George back in 1960 with Hurst Performance Research. His Hurst H.O. Pontiacs have stormed drag strips and main streets across the country for 50 years," said Hurst Chairman, Nate Shelton. "There could not be a better time to honor Doc and the legendary Pontiac marque."
Watson's contribution to the American performance landscape is unrivaled. During a 50-year career in the development, manufacturing and marketing of special vehicles, Watson brought to life more than 80 performance cars and racing vehicles, including the original Hurst Oldsmobile, the Hemi-Under-Glass and the 1972 Hurst/Pontiac SSJ. These new HURST/Pontiac's are yet another chapter in his illustrious career.
"If we combine the wisdom earned through the heritage of past Hurst vehicles with the vision of globally beneficial vehicles, we will not be living through the death of the Muscle Car," Watson explained. "Rather, we will see the birth of exciting, passion-filled performance vehicles – vehicles that will give new meaning to lean, mean, and environmentally clean machines. It's a 'new machine age,' and Hurst will be first once again."
Hurst Performance has once again partnered with the Woodhouse Automotive Family of Blair Nebraska as the exclusive Hurst Authorized Pontiac Dealer for sales and service of these exceptional vehicles.
Specifications, pricing and ordering information will be available August 1st on the Hurst website at www.hurst-performance.com.

RM auctioning off two Ford GTs for juvenile diabetes research
If you're like me, wishing you would have had the means to buy a Ford GT while they were in production, now you have a second chance. Ford and RM auctions are teaming up to auction off two of them.
The first one is an early example (number six produced), and is red with white stripes. It will be auctioned off in Meadow Brook in August. Number seven is the second car to be sold, and is white with blue stripes. It will go on the block in Monterey.
Both cars are expected to bring in between $150,000 and $200,000. The money is going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and will be used to fund a medical research endowment.
PRESS RELEASE
JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION TO BENEFIT FROM SALE OF FORD GT SUPERCARS AT RM AUCTIONS' MEADOW BROOK AND MONTEREY EVENTS
Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook
Two original 2005 Ford GT supercars from the Ford Motor Company collection to be offered at RM Auctions' Meadow Brook and Monterey events this August with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
BLENHEIM, Ontario (June 18, 2009) – RM Auctions is honored to provide the stage and auction services for the sale of two factory-original 2005 Ford GT supercars. On behalf of the Ford Motor Company's Global Walk Team, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these cars will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and its mission to find a cure for juvenile diabetes.
"The Ford GT represents the pinnacle of performance from Ford Motor Company and is a great opportunity for the savvy collector. Ford is proud to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation efforts by including these early VIN Ford GTs at the RM auction in Meadow Brook and Monterey", said Edsel B. Ford II, Board Director, Ford Motor Company.
"RM is truly honored to provide support to JDRF's ongoing initiatives and we welcome the opportunity to further the awareness of juvenile diabetes through these events," added Ian Kelleher, President and COO of RM Auctions.
First introduced at the 2002 New York Auto Show, the Ford GT is a true American supercar, built to commemorate Ford's Centennial and its GT40 predecessor's victories at Le Mans 24-Hour races in the 1960s. With its mid-mounted, 550-horsepower supercharged V8, the GT is one of an elite group of 200 mph, hand-crafted supercars that are prized by investment-minded collectors and driving enthusiasts.
The first car offered is the sixth vehicle from the initial production (YF400006) and is finished in vintage Mark IV red and white. This particular car will cross the auction block at RM's 15th annual Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook event, held on the estate's Shotwell-Gustafson Pavilion in Rochester, Michigan on August 1, 2009. This single-day auction of 100 important collector cars is held in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance.
Following in sequence, the second car offered (YF400007) is the seventh built and is presented in its nostalgic Centennial white and blue livery. This GT will join over 200 notable collector cars offered during RM's Sports & Classics of Monterey event in Monterey, California August 13-15, 2009.
In 1998, Ford Motor Company established the Ford Global Walk Team, an employee-driven JDRF fundraising team with Edsel B. Ford II as the Corporate Team Chair. Since its inception, over $27 million has been raised through innovative employee leadership and the generosity of Ford's partners, family and friends – including contributions from RM Auctions.

Sunday tidbits: Chevy can't keep up with Camaro demand, Mustang could have had independent suspension for $100?
File this one under not surprising: Bloomberg is saying that the demand for GM's reborn Camaro is far exceeding supply, resulting in cars selling for over their sticker price. While this is great news for an automaker wallowing in bankruptcy, it's tough news for fans of the car that have been clamoring at the bit to get one.
Dealers have already taken 25,000 orders for the new Camaro, and have delivered around half of them. Analysts told Bloomberg that the cars are going for around $500 over sticker on average, and at least one dealer is saying that he won't have one on his lot for sale in at least a year.
In other irritating news coming out of Detroit, Motor Trend's Angus MacKenzie is saying that the S197 Mustang almost got an independent suspension, and at a lower cost than you would possibly imagine.
According to MacKenzie, the 2005 Mustang was all set to get the independent suspension that it would have shared with the BA-series Falcon sedan built in Australia. Even when it was decided that the two cars would use different platforms, Ford designers set about designing an independent suspension specific to the Mustang.
So why did it still end up with a solid rear axle? According to MacKenzie, product development executive Phil Martens convinced Bill Ford Jr. that they could save $100 per car if they dropped the IRS and went with the solid axle. MacKenzie's sources say that the cost of sorting out the current Mustang's suspension actually cost $98 more per car than the IRS that could have gone in the car.

Video: Hennessey HPE700's LS9 is running
We recently brought you some pictures proving that the Corvette ZR1's LS9 fit well in the 2010 Camaro, specifically in Hennessey's HPE700. Now they have the beast up and running, and the sound is truly something to behold. Keep in mind the car is running with open headers, but it should still sound nasty with a full exhaust.

Motor Trend: Corvette ZR1 vs. F/A-18 Hornet
The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has dominated most every production car it has been pitted against, especially those in or around it's $100,000 price range. So Motor Trend decided to go one further and put the ZR1 up against something with a little more power - an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet from the Blue Angel squad.
While the ZR1 puts out 638 hp and hits 60mph in 3.3 seconds, the Hornet is capable of mach 1.8 and 32,000 pounds of thrust. It may not sound like a fair fight, but the rules were the first one to hit the one mile mark would win. Hit the video to see who wins.

2010 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to get upgrades, increase in price
GM needs all the money it can get, and inflation happens. So go figure, the price of admission to the fire breathing ZR1 is going up for the 2010 model year. The supercar will cost you $109,530; an increase of $2,910 over last year's model. But considering most dealers were already charging a good bit over sticker anyway, we suppose this isn't a big shocker.
For your hard earned money, you still get the most powerful production Corvette of all time. You will also get a few upgrades over the '09 model, such as standard side curtain airbags, launch control and Performance Traction Management System. The PTMS gives the driver more control over traction settings when in competition mode.
A much better pallet of colors is also in the works for 2010, including the Torch Red you see above.
PRESS RELEASE:
2010 CORVETTE ZR1: PERFORMANCE TRACTION MANAGEMENT ENHANCES AN ALREADY WORLD-BEATING DRIVING EXPERIENCE
After taking on the world's best supercars and proving a better value and performer by the global automotive press, the Corvette ZR1 returns for 2010 with new Performance Traction Management (PTM) technology. It is an advanced system that is part of a new Launch Control feature, which optimizes traction for greater and more consistent on-track performance.
The PTM system holds a predetermined engine speed while the driver pushes the throttle to the floor. That allows the driver to quickly release the clutch and the system modulates engine torque 100 times per second to maximize the available traction. The system is capable of approaching a skilled driver's best effort and repeats it consistently.
PTM also integrates the ZR1's traction control, active handling and selective ride control systems to enhance race track driving consistency and overall performance. When full throttle is applied upon exiting a corner, it automatically manages acceleration dynamics.
The new PTM technology is the newest element that affirms the Corvette ZR1 is an American supercar with the technology and engineering refinement to take on the world's best – but at a much lower price.
The ZR1's highlights include:
* LS9 supercharged 6.2L V-8 rated at 638 horsepower (476 kW), and 604 lb.-ft. of torque (819 Nm)
* Six-speed, close-ratio, race-proven manual transmission
* High-capacity dual-disc clutch
* Higher-capacity and specific-diameter axle half-shafts; enhanced torque tube
* Specific suspension tuning provides more than 1g cornering grip
* Twenty-spoke 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels
* Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires – P285/30ZR19 in front and P335/25ZR20 in the rear – developed specifically for the ZR1
* Standard Brembo carbon-ceramic, drilled disc brake rotors – 15.5-inch-diameter (394-mm) in the front and 15-inch-diameter (380-mm) in the rear
* Blue-painted brake calipers
* Standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control with track-level suspension
* Wider, carbon-fiber front fenders with ZR1-specific dual ports
* Carbon-fiber hood with a raised, polycarbonate window – offering a view of the intercooler below it
* Carbon-fiber roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter and rocker moldings with clear-coated, visible carbon-fiber weave
* ZR1-specific full-width rear spoiler with raised outboard sections
* Specific gauge cluster with boost gauge (also displayed on the head-up display) and 220-mph (370 km/h) speedometer readout
* Curb weight of 3,333 pounds (1,512 kg).
The specialized components of the new ZR1 work harmoniously to deliver the most powerful and fastest automobile ever produced by General Motors. It has a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).
In addition to PTM, the following features are also new for 2010:
* Standard launch control
* Available Torch Red exterior color
* Available Cashmere interior color
* Available Competition Gray wheels.
Supercharged LS9 engine
The supercharged LS9 6.2L small-block engine is the power behind the ZR1's performance. A sixth-generation Eaton supercharger helps the LS9 make big power and torque at lower rpm and carries it in a wide arc to 6,600 rpm, as it pushes enough air to help the engine maintain power through the upper levels of the rpm band – the area where supercharged performance tends to diminish. Heavy-duty and lightweight reciprocating components enable the engine's confident high-rpm performance.
The Roots-type supercharger uses a unique, four-lobe rotor design. It is augmented with an integrated charge cooling system that reduces inlet air temperature for maximum performance.
The LS9 is hand-assembled at GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich., and incorporates special processes typically seen in racing engines to produce a highly refined and precise product. For example, cast iron cylinder liners are inserted in the aluminum block and are finish-bored and honed with a deck plate installed. The deck plate simulates the pressure and minute dimensional variances applied to the block when the cylinder heads are installed. This ensures a higher degree of accuracy that promotes maximum cylinder head sealing, piston ring fit and overall engine performance.
Transmission and axle
The LS9 engine is backed by an upgraded, stronger six-speed manual transmission and a twin-disc clutch that provide exceptional clamping power, while maintaining an easy clutch pedal effort. ZR1-specific gearing in the transmission provides a steep first-gear ratio that helps launch the car, and top speed is achieved in sixth gear.
As the term implies, the twin-disc clutch system employs a pair of discs, which spreads out the engine's torque load over a wider area. This enables tremendous clamping power when the clutch is engaged, while also helping to dissipate heat better and extend the life of the clutch.
The twin-disc clutch system also contributes to the ZR1's exceptional driving quality, with smooth and easy shifting. The twin-disc system's design allows higher torque capacity with inertia and pedal effort similar to the Corvette Z06. It enables a 25-percent reduction in inertia, thanks to smaller, 260-mm plates; the Corvette Z06's uses a 290-mm single-disc system.
The rear axle also is stronger in the ZR1 and features asymmetrical axle-shaft diameters – 33 mm on the right side and 40 mm on the left – that were developed after careful testing to provide optimal torque management. The axles are mounted on a more horizontal plane that correlates with the wider width of the rear wheels and tires.
Ride and handling
The ZR1 is built on the same aluminum-intensive chassis as the Corvette Z06 and features similar independent SLA front and rear suspensions, with aluminum upper and lower control arms. Where the ZR1 differs is the suspension tuning, which was optimized for the car's steamroller-wide front and rear tires.
Magnetic Selective Ride Control is standard and tuned specifically for the ZR1. The system's ability to deliver a compliant ride with nearly instantaneous damping adjustments enabled engineers to develop a surprisingly supple ride quality in a supercar that still delivers cornering grip of more than 1g.
From a high-performance perspective, Magnetic Selective Ride Control helps the rear axle remain planted during launch for smooth, hop-free acceleration. It also helps suppress axle movement when cornering on broken or uneven pavement.
Brakes, wheels and tires
Commensurate with the ZR1's engine output is the braking system, which is headlined by Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors. Found on only a few exotics and more expensive supercars, carbon-ceramic brake rotors are made of a carbon-fiber-reinforced ceramic silicon carbide material . The advantages of these rotors are low mass and resistance to wear and heat. In fact, the rotors should never show corrosion or require replacement for the life of the vehicle, when used in normal driving.
The vented and cross-drilled rotors on the ZR1 measure 15.5 inches (394 mm) in diameter in the front and 15 inches (380 mm) in diameter in the rear – making them among the largest carbon-ceramic rotors available on any production vehicle.
Clamping down on the high-tech rotors are six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers, each painted a ZR1-exclusive blue. The brakes are visible through the ZR1's exclusive wheels: 20-spoke alloy rims that measure 19 x 10 inches in diameter in the front and 20 x 12 inches in the rear. A Sterling Silver paint finish is standard; chrome and Competition Gray versions are optional. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires developed specifically for the ZR1, measuring P285/30ZR19 in front and P335/25ZR20 in the rear.
Exclusive exterior
The ZR1 is instantly recognizable, with perhaps the most identifiable feature a raised, all-carbon-fiber hood that incorporates a clear, polycarbonate window. The window provides a view of the top of the engine's intercooler, with the legend "LS9 SUPERCHARGED" embossed on the left and right sides, and an engine cover with the Corvette crossed flags logo debossed at the front.
The underside of the hood has a visible carbon-fiber-weave. Visible carbon-fiber is used on the roof, roof bow, rocker molding and front splitter. These exterior components are protected by a specially developed glossy, UV-resistant clear coat that resists yellowing and wear.
Widened, carbon-fiber front fenders with specific, dual lower ports; and a full-width, body-color rear spoiler incorporating the center high-mounted stop lamp are also unique to the ZR1. All of the exterior features were developed to enhance high-speed stability and driver control.
Interior details
The ZR1 interior builds on the brand's dual-cockpit heritage, with high-quality materials, craftsmanship and functionality that support the premium-quality performance. The ZR1 cabin differs from the Corvette and Corvette Z06 with the following:
* ZR1-logo sill plates
* ZR1-logo headrest embroidery
* Specific gauge cluster with "ZR1" logo on the tachometer and a 220-mph (370 km/h) readout on the speedometer
* Boost gauge added to the instrument cluster and head-up display.
The standard ZR1 (RPO 1ZR) comes with accoutrements based on the Z06, including lightweight seats and lightweight content. The uplevel interior package (RPO 3ZR) includes power-adjustable, heated and leather-trimmed sport seats (embroidered with the ZR1 logo); Bose premium audio system; navigation system; Bluetooth connectivity; power telescoping steering column; custom leather-wrapped interior available in four colors; and more.
By the numbers
In addition to the exterior cues and powertrain, ZR1 models are distinguished from other Corvette models by their vehicle identification number, or VIN. Each carries a unique, identifying VIN digit, as well as a sequential build number. This makes it easy to determine the build number of a specific car – information treasured by enthusiasts and collectors. For example, a ZR1 with a VIN ending in "0150" would indicate it is the 150th ZR1 built for the model year.

Lee Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang
Lee Iacocca, former president of Ford, is known as the father of the Ford Mustang. Not to mention he recruited Carroll Shelby to create some pretty famous versions of the Mustang himself. So it's no surprise that Lee would one day get his own special edition Mustang.
The car you see here is known as the 2009 1/2 Lee Iacocca 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang, and it features a coach built body designed by Michael Leone and built by the Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters.
The Mustang features a redesigned front end with sunken headlights and a sleek fastback body line. Inside it features Diamond Design leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with "I" logos, and Iacocca-badged aluminum door sill plates.
Ford Performance is to thank for some performance mods, which include a cold-air intake system and the Ford Racing Handling Pack with new shocks and springs. Customers can also opt for a supercharger system that boosts the 4.6-liter V8 to 400 horsepower as well as a 14-inch front brakes.
Only 45 copies of the 45th Anniversary Edition Mustang will be produced, all sold exclusively through Galpin Ford in Southern California.
PRESS RELEASE:
Forty-five years after he introduced the original Ford Mustang, launched at a dramatic press conference at the 1964 New York World's Fair, auto industry visionary Lee Iacocca today announced a new version of the famous muscle car – the Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang – a breathtaking vehicle that utilizes the latest in Ford performance technology with a style and panache that screams, Mustang fastback. Only 45 "2009½" Iacocca Silver Edition Mustangs – all painted a special "Iacocca" chosen silver hue – will be built.
Nearly two years in the making, the Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is a collaborative effort by Iacocca, designer Michael Leone, and Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, the world-class coachbuilding and Design Company in Fountain Valley, Calif. The new business venture is called I Legacy, and it will be in concert with Galpin Ford, the exclusive Ford dealership to offer these Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustangs to the public.
In a word, the new Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is stunning. The lines flow organically from front to rear. The hand-crafted piece of rolling art, with its innovations and impact of the fastback design is truly exceptional in every way. With its sunken headlights, slanted grill and low stance, the car gives you "street attitude."
"Once in a while a car comes along that changes everything, and that was the original Mustang," said Iacocca.
The Silver Edition Mustang perpetuates the Iacocca mystique.
The car begins life on a 2009 Mustang platform, which is then uniquely modified and coachbuilt. While the exterior fastback design of the Iacocca Silver Mustang is compelling, the mechanical underpinnings are true American muscle. Two power plant options will be offered, a normally-aspirated 4.6-liter Ford V8 rated at 320 horsepower and an optional supercharged version that delivers a head-snapping 400 horsepower. Both engines are covered by a factory Ford warranty. Drivers will harness the power through a quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission.
The car's suspension has been upgraded to keep pace with the power delivery. A Ford Racing Handling Package adds firmer springs and re-valved shock absorbers. A 14-inch Ford Racing Braking Package is optional. All suspension components will be covered under a factory Ford warranty, as well.
Inside the Iacocca Silver Mustang, the interior is resplendent with luxurious touches that highlight the car's special heritage, including Iacocca Diamond Design leather seats with embroidery stitching, an Iacocca signature dash plaque with serial number, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with "I" badge, and Iacocca-badged aluminum door sill plates.
The cars will initially be revealed and then available at a reception in late July, at Southern California's Galpin Ford dealership, the world's largest volume Ford dealer for 19 years, as well as an innovator in the promotion and retail of specialty automobiles. The price is yet to be announced.
The "Father of the Mustang" returns to the legend that started it all.

Hennessey Camaro gets it's ZR1 LS9
Hennessey Performance has completed the most crucial task in building it's latest creation, the HPE700. It managed to fit the Corvette ZR1's LS9 motor underhood, all 6.2 liters of it.
The engine cover that's visible through a polycarbonate window on the Corvette ZR1 lines up nicely against the Camaro's firewall. In it's natural form, the LS9 produces 638hp, but in Hennessey's Camaro it will knock out over 700.
Only 24 examples will be produced, and 11 are already sold. If you want to pick up one of the remaining cars or read more about the car, head over to Hennessey Performance.

Plymouth Road Runner Concept - what could have been?
Plymouth is dead, but that didn't stop Michael Leonhard, an independent artist hailing from Austria, from dreaming about what could have been. The result is these nice renderings of a potential cousin for the Dodge Challenger.
The Road Runner concept takes it's cues from the 1971-1972 models with a little modernization thrown in. We'll let the pictures and Michael's own description tell the tale.
Plymouth Road Runner Concept
I think it's difficult and a tight task to bring back a trademark that has vanished into thin air. Especially nowadays where competition is tougher than ever in the automotive industry. And so it may be for Plymouth - a brand that dissappeard and left memories for having built great classics and muscle cars.
The most noted Plymouth car ever may be the Road Runner. For a possible and effective relaunch of the Plymouth brand a reissue of the Road Runner could fit the bill. Overall it means the transfer of remaining memories and spirits of a car brand from yesterday into the future. Directly tieing up on a point when Plymouth achieved success (like back in the late 60s, beginnning of 70s). And that's why I decided to choose the Road Road Runner name for a re-launch of Plymouth. A bird and brand rising again like phoenix from the ashes.
The concept takes most of it's cues from the Road Runners of the years '71 and '72. In combination with modernized and futuristic shapes, but keeping the character of the original car. The front looks dramatic and mean thanks to a headlight section made of tinted glass. Headlights only become visible when they are turned on. The same goes for the Roadrunner Logo in the center that is now illuminated. The big grille opening provides plenty of air for the radiator. The hemi-powered monster gets rid of hot air the other way round through the typical hood scoops. The side view is characterized by a dramatically dynamic shape with a low roof line, high belt line, square-molded wheel-arches and big magnesium five spoke wheels (22 inch rear, 20 inch front) combined with red line tires. The powerful looks continue on the rear with a big diffusor for improved road grip and a dual exhaust system. The taillights are styled to match the headlights and become visible when turned on. To a big part the roof is made of glass except the A-pillars made of aluminium. The C-pillar becomes a dominating design element on the roof section and carries the typical
interrupted Roadrunner grafics. The color of choice for the body is Curious Yellow and Triple Black. The noise when honking the horn? "Beep-Beep" of course!

Reed Speed Ford Mustang packing twin turbo and 700hp coming to a dealer near you
Mustang tuners are a dime a dozen, no doubt. But it's not every tuner that offers a 700hp, twin turbo Mustang that you can buy from a dealership. Randall Reed Ford is primed to do just that, offering it's own signature edition 2010 Ford Mustang at it's own stores and select dealers across the country.
The Reed Speed SSE has been developed with the help of Artisan Performance and is obviously packing a retuned engine, complete with forged rods, new pistons and Total Seal rings. The new internals drop the compression ratio to accept the 12 psi of dual-intercooled boost run through a set of Artisan Rear Mounted twin turbochargers. According to Reed, the combination is good for 700 hp, and will only be backed by a manual gearbox.
The whoa to stop the go comes with 14 inch rotors with six piston calipers by SSBC. A custom body kit widens the 'stang by 1.5 inches in the front and 3 inches in the rear, all the better to conceal the 20 inch wheels, which are 11 inches wide in the front and 13 inches in the rear. If you are drooling at the thought of having one already, there is no word on pricing or availability yet. But the car is expected to go on sale this summer.

Ford Mustang to finally get new 3.7 liter DOHC V6, new intake, FR3 handling package and Track Pack
Really, the only disappointing thing that came out of the new Mustang's introduction at the LA Auto Show last November was the fact that all of the last generation's powerplants carried over. And this meant that the lame, outdated 4.0L V6 would still be under the hood of a car that had a much revised interior and new sheetmetal.
Ford had promised that new powerplants were forthcoming, and we saw the first evidence of this in their new 5.0 V8. Now we have word that the excellent 3.7L V6 currently found in the Edge and Lincoln MKX will make it's way under the pony car's hood in 2011.
No specs have been released yet, but in it's MKX form the V6 makes 273hp. With a little tinkering, the 3.7 could be in the race for entry level pony car supremacy with the new Camaro, which puts out an even 300hp.
In other Mustang powerplant news, it appears that Ford will be offering a newly developed intake manifold for it's venerable 4.6L V8. The current intake works great until you hit 6,500 rpm, and then it falls flat on it's face. The new intake will allow you to run up to 7,500 rpm and will certainly open the engine up for some better mods.
In out last little tidbit of Mustang news, the Track Pack handling option will finally be made available for the 2010 Mustang this summer. The option will includes an upgraded suspension as well as unique 19 inch Pirelli tires.
Ford Racing will also be offering the FR3 handling pack, which includes an inch lower ride height, stiffer springs, stiffer sway bars and retuned dampers for $1,335.
Unlike most aftermarket parts, the FR3 will come with a full warranty and will also be available for V6 Mustangs as well as GT's.
PRESS RELEASE:
ENTHUSIASTS CAN ADD NEW FACTORY TRACK PACK FOR 2010 MUSTANG, INSTALL FORD RACING PARTS
Factory-installed Track Pack option features upgraded suspension parts, unique tuning and special 19-inch Pirelli summer tires for enthusiasts seeking even more performance
Track Pack is available this summer on 2010 Mustang GT coupes with manual transmissions
Car and Driver magazine selects 2010 Mustang fit with Track Pack as best muscle car in comparison test versus Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger
Parts from Ford Racing's FR3 Handling Pack available for enthusiasts seeking even more - backed by warranty and available for self or dealer installation
DEARBORN, Mich., June 10, 2009 - The 2010 Ford Mustang, now in dealer showrooms, builds on a proud, unbroken 45-year heritage of Fast, Fun and Affordable with an all-new exterior design, available cutting-edge technology and performance enhancements pioneered on Ford's extensive racing and special programs.
One hallmark of Mustang's enduring popularity is the opportunity to customize this American icon. Enthusiasts who have personalized and customized Mustangs range from legends, such as Carroll Shelby, to professional drivers to hobbyists who enjoy a weekend at the track.
For those customers interested in more-aggressive performance, an optional factory-installed Track Pack is available this summer for 2010 Ford Mustang GT coupes with manual transmission. Ford Racing's FR3 Handling Package also is available for those enthusiasts who want even more aggressive suspension tuning and can be installed in their garage or at a Ford dealer. Car and Driver magazine recently declared a 2010 Mustang equipped with a Track Pack the winner in a comparison test against the new Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger, calling the body control of the Mustang with the Track Pack "astounding."
For decades, the Mustang has been the preeminent car in many forms of racing compiling victories and championships on road courses all over the world. In just the last few years Ford Racing's Mustang FR500C captured the European GT4 drivers championship (2007, 2008) and the Grand-AM KONI Challenge championship (2005, 2008).
"At Ford, we always apply what we learn at the track to the street," said Fritz Wilke, Mustang Performance/Enthusiast Manager. "The Track Pack and Ford Racing FR3 Handling Pack continue that heritage and give our performance customers great ways to have an even sportier experience in the 2010 Mustang GT coupe."
Packaged aimed at performance enthusiasts
Both the 2010 V-6 and GT models feature improved handling, but Team Mustang wanted to create a distinctive option package aimed at performance enthusiasts. Starting with the 2010 GT manual coupe, the engineering team was able to create a package that hits the sweet spot.
The first ingredient was to add a high-performance summer tire, and the 19-inch Pirelli P Zero P255/40ZR-19 proved to be an inspired choice for improved grip. Ford's engineering team then went to work on the underpinnings of the 2010 Mustang GT coupe, using Ford's proven technology from the Shelby GT500 program.
The front and rear stabilizer bars from the 2009 Shelby GT500 complement the Pirelli tires and help balance the Track Pack 2010 Mustang GT coupe front to rear. The struts and shocks were retuned for the increased capability of the new tire and stabilizer bar changes. The engineering team also spent significant time at the track to ensure the Track Pack was rewarding on the track and offered a balance of spirited driving and track prowess.
The roll gradient (how much the car rolls while steering) was reduced nearly 13 percent compared with the base 2010 Mustang GT. Damping was increased by 23 percent in the front and 8 percent in the rear in the low- to mid-speed compared to the 2010 Mustang GT.
"By reducing the roll gradient, the car stays flatter in turns," said Tom Barnes, Vehicle Engineering Manager, 2010 Mustang. "And when the car is flatter, the driver is more in command and more confident in what the car's doing.
"Great handling comes from great control. A driver's control of the vehicle is facilitated by information. This Track Pack communicates to the driver through the tires and suspension so well that is it easy to drive very quickly. It rewards smooth driving, while offering great capacity to cover driver error."
Looking at all areas for improvement
In addition to the hardware changes and extensive tuning, the Ford team also took a more holistic approach to improving the Track Pack Mustang.
"Handling is not just chassis," Barnes said. "Vehicle dynamics - how the Mustang responds under acceleration and braking - is important as well."
The solution from the powertrain part of the equation was to use a 3.73 limited-slip axle with carbon-fiber clutch plates.
"The 3.73 axle allows for a more-responsive Mustang, especially at mid-range speeds," Barnes said. "The carbon-fiber plates allow a very robust architecture in terms of temperature and repeated hard driving on the track."
Performance® Friction brake pads, which better resist brake fade, are used front and rear. Both the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and AdvanceTrac were retuned to complement the advanced capabilities of the new tires and brakes. AdvanceTrac is standard on the 2010 GT coupe and can be operated in any of three modes: On, Off or Sport.
"The Track Pack covers all the bases," Barnes said. "The new tires give the Mustang more grip, we have a more-responsive acceleration, better brake linings that are more consistent over time and the car is tied down better because of the changes to the bars and the shock tuning."
"Track Pack has the grip, the handling and it has the 'go.' And it absolutely can be used as a daily driver. Track Pack offers the best of both worlds - great performance on the track or if you're cruising down the road."
Ford Racing's FR3 Handling Pack features components proven out on the racetrack. Included in the pack are dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a strut tower brace.
"The FR3 Handling Pack is derived from our extensive experience with the Ford Mustang FR500C competing in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge and FIA GT4," said Andy Slankard, Engineering Supervisor, Ford Racing.
Enhancements from the FR3 Handling Pack include:
Ride height lowered by more than 1 inch
Increased spring rate by about 75 pounds to improve turn in and mid-corner performance
Front and rear sway bars stiffened to eliminate roll
Re-tuned dampers, increasing the compression and rebound
The Track Pack retails for $1,495 while the FR3 Handling Pack retails for $1,335.

Ford Racing introduces new Boss 351 engine block
Anyone looking to pump out 600 or more horsepower from their small block Ford have a new foundation from which to build on. Ford Racing is rolling out a new Boss 351 block, which will be capable of supporting displacements ranging from 351 to 460 cubic inches.
The new Boss is based on the architecture of the ever popular 351 Windsor but sports the 2.75 inch main bearings of the Cleveland. The block was designed with strength in mind, using 4-bolt main caps, screw-in freeze plugs, splayed main bolts, siamese bores with engineered coolant cross-drilling, front cross-over lifter oiling, and diesel-grade iron with 41,000 psi tensile strength.
The 351 Boss is designed for both street and strip, as it features a street capable cooling design. Suggested retail price is $1,999.
PRESS RELEASE:
FORD RACING INTRODUCES NEW PERFORMANCE 351 BLOCK
Ford introduces all-new Boss 351 high-performance engine block for Ford enthusiast cars, including hot rods, street rods, race cars, and vintage Mustangs
Race ready and affordably priced, starting at $1999
DEARBORN, Mich., June 12, 2009 – Ford Racing follows the Boss 302 block released in 2006, with the new Boss 351 featuring performance and packaging that will accommodate displacements from 351 to over 460 cubic inches.
"Whether they're racing in a sealed-engine class, building an all-out drag racing engine, or looking for a street performer, the Boss 351 block meets the needs of all Ford 351 enthusiasts, at a price comparable with a performance-prepped stock block," Wolfe added.
The Boss 351 block is based on Windsor 351 architecture with a Cleveland sized 2.75" main bearing journal. Available in two deck heights, 9.2-inch and 9.5-inch, the Boss 351 is designed for performance with 4-bolt main caps, and screw-in freeze plugs. Technological improvements such as splayed main bolts, siamese bores with engineered coolant cross-drilling, front cross-over lifter oiling, and diesel-grade iron with 41,000 psi tensile strength separate the new Boss 351 from both stock and aftermarket blocks.
Max stroke is up to 4.25" depending on crankshaft manufacturer with max bore size topping out at 4.125" with coolant cross drilling. A non cross-drilled block with increased bore capacity will be available by 3rd quarter.
The new Boss 351 is built from all new tooling and incorporates technical developments compiled by Ford Racing engineers and racers. This new block is expected to see wide use in circle-track racing, from NASCAR Late Models to Dirt Modifieds and Late Models.
"Enthusiasts are making big power, 600, even 700 hp, the Boss 351 meets their demand for a reliable, high power foundation." says Wolfe. "Race-specific blocks offer the strength required, but cool poorly for street use and are very expensive for the average enthusiast. The new Boss 351 block features greater strength than most race blocks, a street-capable cooling design, and affordable pricing due to high-volume production. High-volume production also leads to the improved quality and durability you would expect from any Ford block."
Affordably priced to get enthusiasts' hearts pumping, suggested retail price for the Boss 351 block is $1,999. A Boss 351-based crate engine with 427cid is expected to be available by the fourth quarter of 2009. Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger reportedly heading to NASCAR in 2010
Admittedly, I'm just not much of a NASCAR fan. Maybe it's because they drive around endlessly in circles. More likely, it's because I don't find Impalas and Camrys all that interesting racing around a track.
So finally, someone seems to be waking up in the stock car world and smelling the proverbial coffee. In an attempt to boost the series' viewers and souvenir sales, Fox Sports is reporting that Ford and Chrysler plan to introduce Mustang- and Challenger -bodied racers into the Nationwide series next year.
The new deigns are due to be submitted for approval on June 26th, and reportedly the new stock cars are going to look a whole lot more like real cars than the ones we see today. Unfortunately, GM is opting to stick with the Impala instead of going with the Camaro. Bummer.
Along with the success of the recently reintroduced Cobra Jet Mustang, might we see a return to the old adage "race on Sunday, sell on Monday?"

Superior Glass Works Sport Wagon
Back at the 1954 Motorama in New York, Chevrolet displayed a Corvette-based wagon called the Nomad. The public loved the styling of the sport wagon, so naturally Chevy rushed to produce the car. Problem is, they didn't base it on the Corvette.
Superior Glass Works is pitching in to help all those folks who felt snubbed by the Nomad. For $125,000, they will build you a 1954 Corvette Nomad in appropriate fiberglass and stick it on a C5 chassis.
You get your choice of engine, interior, and wiring at an additional cost. A $50,000deposit will be required. Brad Peterson, owner of Superior Glass Works, says that no preorders were taken and none have yet been sold. If you want to check out the car in person, it will be at Back to the 50s in St. Paul, Minn. June 19-21 or at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, August 6-9.
June 2, 2009, Molalla, Oregon - Superior Glass Works today proudly introduces the Limited Edition Superior 54 Sport Wagon. Styled in tribute to the 1954 General Motors' Motorama Corvette Nomad, The Superior 54 is enhanced with 21st century performance. Available only as a Complete Rolling Package, each will be delivered with the body and chassis fully assembled - ready for paint, interior, engine, wiring and other personal touches to create the Restomod, Custom, or Pro-Touring vehicle desired.
Manufactured in Oregon with the highest-quality, hand-laid composite and reinforced with a stout steel sub-structure, the body includes a complete set of custom-crafted window glass and chrome trim. The body's stunning looks are complemented with modern conveniences such as power windows, power door locks and air conditioning.
"The Superior 54 Sport Wagon is a very special car," said Brad Peterson, owner of Superior Glass Works. "There has always been a mystique surrounding the Motorama cars and we are excited to offer our Superior 54 to a select few looking to drive their own piece of history."
The Superior 54 Sport Wagon chassis is equipped with modern, high-performance, C5 Corvette suspension.
Features include:
The custom frame designed and built in partnership with Art Morrison Enterprises, Inc., including Morrison's front cross member, steering arms, sway bar, and power rack and pinion steering.
The independent front and rear suspensions use 1997-2004 C5 Corvette components.
The front suspension includes stock Corvette control arms, spindles, and brakes, plus high-performance coil over shocks in place of the stock leaf spring.
The rear suspension utilizes a custom narrowed stock cradle, with the half-shafts and leaf spring narrowed accordingly.

2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
Chevrolet is bringing back the Grand Sport for 2010, and now we have some good pictures of the reborn ride. The trim package will start at $55,720 for the coupe and $59,530 for the convertible.
The Grand Sport gets gills that sit behind the front wheels and vent air from the larger brakes, as well as an air inlet on the leading edge of its hood from the Z06, as well as the air scoop behind each door and front splitter. Those front and rear fenders are also both wider than what you get on a base Corvette, all in order to accommodate wider tires fitted to Grand Sport-specific wheels. Though the engine remains the same, GS Vettes do get an upgraded suspension and your choice of a manually tranny or six-speed auto.
The Grand Sport replaces the Z51 package, and makes a nice compromise between the garden variety 'Vette and the Z06.

Ford to produce 2010 Mustang Cobra Jet and body-in-white for racers
The 2009 Mustang FR500CJ Cobra Jet was introduced at last year's SEMA, and was immediately successful, going on to win it's first event at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA back in February. The entire run of 50 that were produced was sold out in two weeks.
Today Ford announced that it will indeed bring the car back for 2010. Production will begin in the fourth quarter and deliveries will start in early 2010. The base price is expected to be less than $75,000 and production will again be limited to 50 cars.
Much like the 2009 model, the '10 will be outfitted with a 5.4L supercharged V8 rated at 425hp, with an optional aluminum block 475hp motor being available. For more info, check the press release below.
Ford also announced that it will be offering a new body-in-white based on the new 2010 Mustang. The bare body shells will be available for racers looking to build their own race car. Ford will start taking orders in the fall, with delivery expected in December.
PRESS RELEASE:
Milan, Mich. - The 40th Anniversary 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet more than lived up to its billing, joining its historic predecessor-the original 1968 Cobra Jet in winning its inaugural race at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Now, Ford Racing is ready to update the latest Cobra Jet, and is announcing plans to build a 2010 version of the CJ. The announcement was officially made today at the National Mustang Racing Association event in Milan.
A little more than a year ago, Ford Racing announced plans to build a modern edition of the Cobra Jet. The limited run of 50 cars sold in less than two weeks, even before the first car was built. Once again Ford Racing will produce a limited run of 50 2010 Mustang CJs, the minimum number that must be produced in order to receive clearance from NHRA for competition.
Exact specifications are being finalized, but the initial plan is for the '10 Cobra Jet to have a 425-hp 5.4-liter supercharged engine from the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog, but with an option to upgrade to an estimated 475-hp aluminum block engine. Likewise the 6-speed manual transmission that was available in the '08 Cobra Jet will be standard, but an option to upgrade to 5-speed Liberty manual transmission or a race prepped automatic transmission will be available. Other '10 Mustang Cobra Jet upgrades include an 8.50et NHRA certified roll cage and lightweight racing brakes.
"I've said from my first day in this job that I wanted Ford Racing to continue to be a 'racer-friendly' organization," said Wolfe. "That's why we take great pride in being one of only two car companies worldwide that builds ready-to-race cars and sells them as part of our performance parts offerings."
Component testing is underway and base pricing will be less than $75,000. Production is expected to begin during the fourth quarter with delivery expected in early 2010. Sportsmen racers interested in placing a pre-order for the '10 Cobra Jet should contact their local Ford Dealership.

Rendered: 2011 Mustang Mach 1
The Mach 1 package has always been one of the more desirable Mustang option packages from it's debut in 1969. The high performance package is slotted below the top end Shelby models, proving to be more of an affordable, every man's muscle car.
After seeing success in it's re-release in 2003, there is obviously speculation that the Mach 1 can live again. With the upcoming release of Ford's new 5.0 Coyote V8 producing 500hp, it's natural to think that a Mach 1 would be the natural way for Ford to debut the engine with some hype.
Edmundo Cano recently used his photoshop skills to show us all what the resulting car might look like. Naturally it's a great looking package on the new 'Stang, and hopefully Ford has something very similar up it's sleeve for 2010.
